Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON ROY DAVID TOMPKIN
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Gordon Roy David Tompkin at the Riverview Health Centre, February 12, 2025, at the age of 73.
Gord, or Gordie as he was called by family and friends, was predeceased by his parents Roy (2001) and Phyllis (1987) Tompkin, and his only sibling Ruth Tyler (Tompkin) (2022), and his brother-in-law Todd Sech (2016).
He leaves to mourn his loving wife Lynne of 33 years, as well as his mother-in-law Gloria, sisters-in-law, Karyn, Shawn (John), Marni and their families; his brother-in-law Henry Tyler and his family; his cousins Donna Goodman and Jack (Dian) Tompkin and their families; lifelong friends Dave Johnson and Terry Morrison; and many nieces and nephews.
Gord was born in Winnipeg and raised in St. Vital where he attended Windsor School and Glenlawn Collegiate. He obtained his chartered accountancy designation in 1977 and practiced with Sill Streuber Fiske and Touche Ross in Winnipeg before opening his own accounting firm in Kenora, later partnering with his friend Joe Fregeau and they eventually merged with the accounting firm of Myers, Norris, Penny (MNP).
Gord met Lynne while working in Winnipeg at Touche Ross in the late 1980’s. They married in 1992 and in the same year built their first home on Black Sturgeon Lake in Kenora, where they resided for 20 years. Gord truly loved the Kenora lake lifestyle. In the summer of 2004, they purchased a cottage at Falcon Lake for a getaway and a change of scenery where they spent many enjoyable hours walking the Trans-Canada Trail with their dogs. As a couple, they enjoyed many vacations abroad and spent their winter months at their home in Tucson, Arizona, which they purchased in 2010.
After his retirement in 2012, Gord and Lynne moved to Buffalo Point, Manitoba, where they continued to enjoy their life of leisure, which included golfing, one of Gord's many passions. Due to Gord’s illness, they returned to Winnipeg in 2020. This final move “home” gave him the opportunity to rekindle many of his forever friendships; too many to mention.
Gord will be dearly missed and remembered for his outgoing personality, sense of humour, generosity, and his very kind compassionate soul which will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him. He made friends easily and touched the life of many throughout his journey of life. His friends inevitably had a “Gordie Story” about his escapades. He brought smiles to the faces of everyone by effortlessly remembering peoples’ names and never having an unkind word about anyone.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Gilmore, pastor C. Salstrom, nurses Rachel, Sheldon and the staff of 4CD at the Riverview Health Centre. A special thank you to our friends Kathy and Dave Seadon for giving me strength during this difficult time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Lynne.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba (Lewy Body Disease). Your contribution will honour Gord’s memory and support the ongoing fight against this devastating disease. In respect of Gord’s wishes, cremation has taken place. No services have been planned at this time.
Gordie, we are so blessed to have had you in our lives. Farewell for now my beloved husband, uncle, cousin, and friend. God Bless you as you rest in the arms of God, reunited with Roy, Phyllis, and Ruth.
Gordie, I love you more than life itself, and when my time is through, I pray that God will take my hand and lead me straight to you. Rest in Peace my love.
“We will catch-up with you further down the road, Gord.”
