It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Marilyn, on December 19, 2024, at the age of 79.
She is survived by her children, Jennifer (Christopher) and Jonathon (Megan); her grandson Bennett; her nephews, Chance, Colin, and James; her nieces, Carla, Tracy and Krista; and her brother Dave (Brenda).
She was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and James McIntosh; brothers, Kenneth and Edward; and most recently, her sister Lorraine.
Marilyn grew up on a farm in Simpson, Saskatchewan. She wasn’t a fan of farm life, but loved the animals and the prairies. She excelled in high school, obtaining her high school diploma at 16. She loved to read, dance, and listen to folk music. She was 11 years old when her sister Lorraine was born, and loved and cared for her as if she were her own.
Marilyn left home at 16 to find work and boarded with her “adopted” family, the Hearns of Regina, before enrolling in University for her Teacher's Certificate.
Marilyn moved to Winnipeg to teach at Heritage School in St. James, where she met her best friends, Diana and Bryan Purdy. She loved teaching and was an exceptional teacher.
During her summers Marilyn travelled, with backpacking around Europe with friends being her most memorable trip.
Marilyn sacrificed her teaching career to stay home with her children, who benefited greatly from having a teacher as a mother. She also dabbled in a variety of interests over the years; creative writing, pottery, yoga, and jazz ballet, to name a few. Writing poetry was her passion. She also loved working at the now Millennium Library and as an ESL Teacher later in life.
Marilyn became a born again Christian and attended St. Aidens Church. Many years later, she joined St. Ignatius Church where she met the late, great, Reverend Jim Wolf. He was an amazing man and a huge influence in her spiritual life.
Marilyn was an avid cat lover, a trait she passed down to both of her children.
A family celebration of our mom's life, and of her sister Lorraine's life, will be held in Simpson, Saskatchewan in the summer.
