MARY-ANN FRANCES FAST
Mary-Ann Fast (née Pura) was a kind and gentle person who was loved by all who knew her. After a three year battle with ovarian cancer, Mary-Ann passed peacefully on March 24, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Mary-Ann was a very spiritual person, who put her family first. She had many dear family and friends she worked, travelled, and camped with, who were later recruited to become one of 'Mary-Ann’s Warriors' and support her through her battle.
She travelled the world throughout her life, with her husband Tim and daughters, Heather and Paula by her side for many unforgettable experiences. Mary-Ann was the most loving Baba and her granddaughters, Lennon and Bowie, held a special place in her heart.
She lived a good life full of fun, friends, music, and adventure. A teacher by profession, Mary-Ann was a dedicated educator who inspired her students to pursue careers in STEM and coached many championship winning teams.
Music was one of her main passions and playing with her group Cairde and her friends at the Irish Association of Manitoba brought her immense joy in recent years. Mary-Ann was an inspiration to us all. She urges you to live your life as she has and, "Dream it, Plan it, Do it!"
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to support ovarian cancer research at Ovarian Cancer Canada or CancerCare Manitoba.

So very sorry for Mary-Ann’s family and friends. I’ve known Mary-Ann for 6 or 7 years, from when she first joined the Irish Slow Session. I was really impressed with her fiddle playing, which was definitely way above my scratchy efforts. Moreover, she was modest about her musical ability, offering helpful hints and suggestions whenever I asked. Mary-Ann always came with a ready smile, a sense of humour, and new tunes for us. I admired her fortitude and perseverance after she was diagnosed. Our group was always so happy to see her with fiddle in hand. Mary-Ann’s rapid progression over the years to the fast session, Cairde performing group, etc., made her a treasured part of the community. Loved her playing. She will be sorely missed, but will remain an inspiration to all of her music friends. Lynn McLean. - Posted by: Lynn McLean (Friend) on: Mar 30, 2025

Mary-Ann’s family and friends have my most sincere condolences. I was very fortunate to work alongside Mary-Ann for several years as an educator. She was always so fun and energetic, and most of all, she was a true champion for the students she taught, never being shy to fight for the supports that the kids needed. I will remember her fondly for her strength, passion, and dedication as an educator. She was the best! - Posted by: Ashley Fazel Darbandi (Friend/Colleague) on: Mar 29, 2025

I met Mary-Ann through Irish music when a small group of us decided to play at the Irish pavilion at Folklarama in 2019. That little group stayed together and became Cairde, which means friends in Gaelic. Mary-Ann was an amazing musician and an incredible person. Though she was hundreds of times better than me, she gave only praise and never criticism. Her enthusiasm for music and life was infectious and she is very much missed by her music friends. 🎶🎻🪗 - Posted by: Linda Little (Cairde friend) on: Mar 29, 2025
