Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARILYN PATRICIA MCWILLIAMS
Marilyn passed peacefully in the early morning hours at Tuxedo Villa. She was born in Winnipeg to Daniel and Laura (Holmes) and lived and worked throughout Winnipeg.
Left to remember and reminisce is her brother Robert "Bob" (Audrey); niece Jennifer; nephew Shaun; great-niece Finley; great-nephews, Miller and Fletcher; sister-in-law Donna; and niece Kellie McWilliams.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents; and most recently this past year her youngest brother Brian.
Marilyn had a varied and interesting work life, as a graduate of the University of Manitoba receiving her Bachelor of Education and Home Economics Degrees. Later she graduated with a Diploma in Dietetics from Health Sciences. She taught Home Ec in high school and also in Cleveland Ohio, later on her career she was Head Dietitian for Riverview Hospital for many years.
As a young child she contracted the Polio virus and spent some time in hospital recovering, as a result her parents enrolled her in the Royal Winnipeg Ballet for dance lessons, to build up her physical stamina and endurance.
In Marilyn's retirement years, she volunteered her time and energy at various hospitals with her many therapy dogs. She got great enjoyment and fulfilment with visiting patients and having her dogs bring their enthusiasm to greet the patients. As an avid pet person, she dove into training Mollie, Rick, Kerry, and Murphy and having them certified to become service/therapy dogs.
Marilyn lived in the Village for many, many years, and she loved the vibrancy of the community and her dogs became a fixture in the Village and were always welcomed to store keepers, shops.
A proud patron of the Arts, she and her father attended operas, ballets. Audrey joined her many times going to the RWB, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Manitoba Theatre Centre, Western Cultural Centre. Music was another love of hers, reading novels and history books, writing poetry and short stories were also a passion of hers. Marilyn had strong beliefs in world issues, civil rights, women's rights and marched in support of those causes, International Women's Day, Amnesty International, and various war conflicts.
She made many friends and acquaintances over the years with walking her dogs along the River Walk, Lyndale Drive, King's Park, Peanut Park, and Munson Park.
Unfortunately, in her later years, Dementia slowly took hold and began to deteriorate her ability to reminisce about family history, memories, stories and her outrageous sense of humour disappeared. Marilyn was a great conversationalist and quick witted.
We will miss you, Marilyn. Don't worry, your "boy" Murphy is in good hands, and will be well taken care of by the family, he is very much loved.
May you find comfort and peace in joining the spirits of Mom, Dad, and Brian. Love from your family.
As per Marilyn's wishes, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place; donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
