SHIRLEY ANNE WILLIAMS

(nee GALLINGER)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Williams, surrounded by her family, at Riverview Health Centre on March 2, 2025, at the age of 87.

She will be dearly missed by her three children, Brad Williams (Jasmine Huang), Diane Williams (Patrick Harrison), and Jacqueline Schultz (Richard Schultz); and grandchildren, Peter, David, Lucas, Kaitlyn, Hailey, Bennett, Baergen, Haleigh and Graham. She is survived by her sister, Bettie Armstrong; and extended family members and friends.

Shirley was a devoted wife to her late husband, Michael (deceased 2019), and together they built a life rich in family, travel, love and laughter. Their deep commitment to one another, as well as to their children and grandchildren created countless cherished memories during family road trips, vacations and celebrations throughout the years.

Shirley had many part-time jobs over the years, but she really found her calling as a volunteer, generously dedicating her time and energy to many organizations, including The Children’s Festival, The HSC Gift Shop, The St. Boniface Hospital Gift Shop and St. John’s Anglican Church, to name a few.

Despite facing challenging health issues over the years, Shirley maintained a positive and cheerful attitude! In 2020 she moved to Riverview Health Centre where she embraced her new life, forming friendships and enthusiastically participating in all of the social opportunities offered. She taught us the profound impact of positivity and grace. While she will certainly be missed, we carry with us deep love, joy and admiration for the kindness and love that she shared with everyone.

The family would like to express a heartfelt expression of gratitude to the staff at Riverview Health Centre, for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Shirley and her family over the past five years.

In accordance with Shirley’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family Celebration of Life and internment will take place in the summer.

Flowers are gratefully declined in favour of donations to Riverview Health Centre or a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • When I started working with your Dad at VIA Rail, both he & your Mom welcomed me as part of your family. I will never forget the times I spent with all of you in the early 80’s. I am so very sorry for your loss, as a mother is the glue that holds a family together. You will now feel cast adrift, but the love you have for each other will hold you together. Your parents will always be alive in your heart. - Posted by: Christine (Hallem) Ward (Friend) on: Apr 12, 2025
