Peacefully on a Sunday morning April 13, 2025 Sylvester passed away at the age of 98.
Left to cherish his memory are grandson Jerren (Angie); cherished great-grandchildren Kaylee, Kayd and Hunter; great-great-granddaughter Isabella; daughter-in-law Mich Ezako; sister-in-law Rose Desautels and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Nellie; son Gregory; his parents; one brother and extended family.
Syl was born in Poland to Theodore and Stefania Peyko. He grew up in Poland and as a young man travelled to many places including Germany and France before moving to Winnipeg. He built a life in Winnipeg's North end and was a Welder for Dominion Bridge until his retirement.
Syl met the love of his life Nellie at a dance. They fell in love and were married on October 12, 1957. Together they raised their son living in Garden City for 55 years.
He enjoyed spending time with Nellie's family helping them and working outdoors on the farm in Melnice. With his family he spent many summers camping and fishing at the Big Whiteshell. Syl enjoyed being outdoors, planting a garden each Spring, raising Pigeons and was often found in the garage always having something to do. Syl enjoyed reading the Bible and learning about God. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses his hope was firm in an earthly resurrection (John 5:28, 29) and having his name in God’s memory.
Syl will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. He was a gentle kind man who didn’t complain, but famously said “You have to accept what it is and do the best you can”. Syl would willingly help a person in need and made sure no one went hungry. He always said "family is everything".
Special thanks to the staff at Maples Personal Care Home.
A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 12:00 pm (Visitation at 11:30 am) at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. A private family burial will follow.
