Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • Our family purchased our cabin at Red Rock, and soon we found we had wonderful neighbors - the Miles Family. Bob of course was our kid's "hero" He soon had Bill and Heather water skiing and Jim up on his shoulders at age 3 I remember. Soon, Bill became Bob's "helper" with delivering papers around the lake. We knew how lucky we were having such a great family right next door. Lucky (their dog) would dive in the lake and come up with stones. Pat came with us on our trip to Scotland. Two years ago, we made a special trip to Red Rock on our way home to Fort Frances. So happy that Bob and Susan were there. They showed us around their beautiful new cabin, and loved all the flowers Susan had planted. When Kristin phoned us to tell us the terrible news about Bob, our family was so very very sad. Through the years Bob would exchange emails with us, and send pictures of first his children, and then his grandkids. He loved them all so very much and Susan and Bob were the happiest grandparents. Our Harvey passed very soon after Bob, and that's the reason we have been so slow in passing on our sympathies and love. - Posted by: Margaret Ann,Harvey, Bill, Heather and Jim (Friends from Red Rock Lake) on: Aug 16, 2025

  • Susan……..our deepest sympathies to you and your family. Kelly and I just found out of your loss of Bob. My heart is breaking for you. Time is on your side. Baby steps. Make sure you take care of you. I know our communication is minimal, but family is all we really have . Love you Tracy and Kelly - Posted by: Tracy Berch (Cousin to Susan) on: May 25, 2025

  • We got on the job together, had a great time in training and for a bit once in the hall but different shifts caused a drift. Bobby was good from head to toe. Heart felt condolences to the family. - Posted by: Mike (Fire) on: May 15, 2025

  • Dearest Kristen, Susan and family. We were shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Bob. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you all 💞 🙏 We curled for many years together and we also have a cottage on Red Rock lake. We have very fond memories of Bob teaching our kids how to water ski for their first time on his special water ski board. Bob always seemed to have this sweet smirk on his face when telling you a cheeky story. We didn't find out about the funeral until the day afterwards.😪 We would have been there had we known. Sending warm hugs your way. - Posted by: Judy and Wolfgang Rolke (Friend) on: May 02, 2025

  • Met Susan and Bob when our boys Mike and Gavin played hockey together. Many fun times with you. You invited us out to Red Rock and our boys became hooked on cabin life and fishing and boating from then on. Gavin now has 2 cabins and our other boys have trailers still crazy for fishing with their boats. I always give the Miles's credit for this life changing event in their lives. So very sorry to hear of your loss of Bob. Take care Susan and family. Prayers Brenda and family - Posted by: Brenda Winchar (Hockey friends) on: Apr 28, 2025

  • I have not seen Bob for probably close to 50 years but this morning, April 27 he popped into my brain so I googled him and was extremely saddened to come upon his obituary. Bobbie and I were neighbours and very close friends in grades 4 - 6 at Governor Semple School in West Kildonan. Bob was an excellent athlete and we would push each other in all sports but especially hockey which we both loved. My family moved half way through grade six and although Bob and I still attended the same junior and high schools, as teens we slowly drifted apart. I've always thought of Bob as one of the fines people that I ever met. He was honest and caring and had a heart of gold. I remember that his Dad had all of these different types of paper, I think he was a printer and worked for an advertising company or a printing company and we would get to use these rich papers to draw and make all these different creations. From what I remember his Mom was a really beautiful, loving woman and she and Bob had a very close relationship. From my relatively short time knowing Bob as a child and teen, Bob was a true friend and a real good one and will be missed on this old world of ours. May Bob's family grieve well, knowing that you were in the presence of a fine man. - Posted by: Jack Hermiston (Childhood Friend) on: Apr 27, 2025
