Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLILLIAN SCHREYER
Peacefully, in the early evening of April 11, our mother Lillian Schreyer passed away in her sleep, her son and youngest daughter by her side.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Tony, her parents, Rosalie and Edmund Rattai, her brothers, Ervin and Norman, sisters-in-law, Doreen and Beatrice, nephew Randall and niece Gail. She was also predeceased by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, George (Lil), Henry (Honor), Leonard (Elsie), Don Thomas and son-in-law Vaughn.
Mom is survived by her children, Barry (Karen), Jeanette (Murray), and Audrey; grandchildren, Brittany (Andrew), Christopher (Zoe), Caitlin, Tyler (Lauren), and Patrick (Tanya). She is also survived by her brother Lloyd (Susan); sister-in-law Eleanor; brother-in-law Ed (Lilly); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was born in Greenwald, MB, on February 22, 1923, during a raging blizzard (a positive premonition on how she would live her life). It was at a local barn dance she first met and later married her husband, Tony Schreyer. Together they created an energetic family of three children. Side by side they created a successful construction company with projects all over the province.
Mom’s family was always at the center of her life. 4-H and music lessons for the girls, various sports for her son, and swimming lessons for all. She gave back to her community in a variety of ways, serving on various boards, volunteering on various projects. She was always doing something.
My mother accomplished too many things in her life to list, but three things do stand out: her love of travelling around the world, her continual thirst for knowledge, and her strong belief in her faith.
Mom always believed she was “lucky”. On her 100th birthday she said, “I can’t believe I made it to 100”. She repeated the same thing on her birthdays of 101 and 102. Luck played a part, but a very strong will and clean living were contributing factors to her long and healthy life.
If you think of our mother, think of something she said or did that put a smile on your face, and I know she would be happy.
We extend our sincere thanks to the caregivers from Manitoba Health Care Services, Dorota, Joanne, Barb, and Corinne for the outstanding care they gave our mother over the years. We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Concordia Village, especially Gabby, Tracy and Mandy for truly making it her second “home” for the last 15 years.
A celebration of mom’s life has been postponed until a later date.

“Mum” Lillian will always be an inspiration to her family and friends. So wise, so resilient, so curious and so very present in every way. Audrey, Barry and Jeannette, our hearts are with you at this time and as you remember a truly remarkable woman and mentor. Thank you for sharing your precious mother with us. She and your dad are together again, at last. With sympathy and caring, Jan and Marcel. - Posted by: Jan and Marcel Belanger (friends) on: Apr 26, 2025
