DUSTIN SHANE LOWRIE

April 13, 1975 - April 24, 2025

Dustin was born to Diane St. Pierre and John Lowrie in Bella Coola, BC on April 13, 1975, when the ooligans were running. While John worked on a collector boat, Diane and her little red-haired baby boy lived in an A-frame house up on the mountain.

They then moved to Sundown, MB in 1977, where they were joined in 1978 by another little red-haired baby boy they named Sonny.

Diane and John parted ways, and she married Bob Tkachuk in 1980, and she and Bob and the boys began a life together.

Dustin and his brother attended Shevchenko 4-12 School in Vita until he left and began his own journey through life. He headed for Alberta to work on the oil rigs and within six years was a driller. He returned to Manitoba when he had an opportunity to join his brother as a partner in Down Under Excavating.

He was a physical fitness adherent, a dedicated dog owner and Harley Davidson rider as well as a devoted friend to all the people that he knew and called a friend, and there were a lot of them.

The family cannot adequately express their gratitude to the outpouring of love and support they received during this stressful time. We acknowledge, in particular, Layton and Jill Brown and their children, Logan and Taylor, who Dustin thought of as family and were standing with us through to the end, as were Dom and Shawna. To all those who called and visited, your love and thoughts are appreciated and will remain with us forever. We apologize to all those we have missed, but you will never be forgotten.

Our deepest thanks go to the emergency first responders and to Dr. Schaefer and the wonderful, dedicated staff of the intensive care unit of St. Boniface Hospital who did all they could to try and save our boy.

Dustin was predeceased by his father John Lowrie, and is survived by his mother Diane and dad Bob, brother Sonny and his wife Lois. He is also survived by Shannon, brother-in-law Shane Reid, mother-in-law Georgina Bradley and father-in-law Tom Reid.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be no service. A celebration of his life will be scheduled for later this summer so that all who knew him and loved him can attend.

Please, if you can, reach out and help and support a friend, acquaintance, or family member who you know may be going through a difficult or trying time. Dustin was one of the most generous and loving people there ever was, and there would be no better way to honour his memory.

Ride in Peace

May the moonbeams be your highway

Let the sun be your guiding light

As you journey through the night

And may the comet be a song

Your dreams would simply like to chase

Through your new land, your new world, your new place

Ride in peace, my friend,

go and ride in peace

For now you hold the keys

to unlock every door

And even though you’re gone

That’s what keeps us pressing on

Is to know we’ll ride in peace

again once more
