With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Louise Huizenga, on Friday, April 25, 2025.
Louise was born on July 2, 1936, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Clarence and Marie Thomas. She graduated with a teaching degree from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Louise married Rev. James Huizenga. Together they served congregations in both Canada and the U.S.
Though we grieve, we rejoice in knowing she is now home with her loving Father in Heaven. Her pain is gone. The healing so many prayed for has come—complete and perfect.
Two words to confer who Louise was are Love and Wisdom. Louise had a heart of gold, sharing kindness and care with all who crossed her path. Those who knew her became part of her extended family and cherished her in return. Louise lived fully in every role she held—mother, sister, friend, minister’s wife, church musician, deacon, teacher, and prayer leader.
Louise taught at Christian Heritage School for over 20 years and volunteered for many more. She continued serving until her health no longer allowed. That was Louise—Devoted and Steadfast.
No illness kept her from church, where she was a light to her community, reflecting God’s love through her life. Louise served faithfully as God’s ambassador, living with grace and perseverance. Now, her mission is complete, and she is home. Though words fall short of describing God’s love, Louise lived it. Louise leaves that legacy to those she leaves behind.
Louise is survived by her children Phyllis, Tom, Tim, Cal and Jana; sisters Susan and Ann; sons-in-law Larry and John; daughter in law Ruth; grandchildren, Noah and Victoria; along with Kristin and Cami; Andrea, Aaron, Adam, Ashley, and Aarika; great-grandchildren Zoen, Zayleigh, Luella, Juniper, and Wendall; grandson-in-laws, Rob, Shane, Sam, and Nick; granddaughter-in-law Laura and many more extended family members.
We thank Shaunna, Cornell, and the staff at Rideau Personal Care Home for their devoted care in her final years.
In her 88 years, Louise touched many lives with compassion and faith. She taught us to live by the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with your whole being and love your neighbor as yourself.”
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church, 1509 Victoria Ave., Brandon, MB.
