Date of Passing: May 05, 2025
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL (MIKE) SILMAN
Unexpectedly, on May 5, 2025, Michael John Silman passed away at the age of 75 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Peggy & Bob Sr.; brothers, Jim (Donna) and Gerry; nephews, Joe Jr. and Chris; and sister in-law Eve. He will be deeply missed by those left to cherish his memory including his son Ben (Rebecca); brothers, Bob (Sharon), Joe, Tom (Fay); sister in-law Lucia; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and a lifetime of many friends.
The third eldest of six boys from a military family, Mike looked up to his older brothers for guidance that he could, in turn, emulate to his younger brothers. Mike tried his hand at various types of work as a young man before settling into a long satisfying career with Canada Post as a letter carrier for most of his tenure until retirement in 2010.
When Mike wasn't pounding the pavement, he was very active making memories with family and friends, playing sports, travelling to destination sporting/concert events or gathering with his extended family for holiday and special occasions. He also took great interest in, and was rather skilled at, photography, picture framing, and custom card design.
Family was everything to Mike and he showed it through his unwavering efforts to acknowledge and celebrate special family events in person when possible, and if not by phone, but more importantly capturing memories by way of pictures or reflection at future gatherings.
Mike had a zeal for life and a desire to inject humour into all of his interactions with people. His cutting wit and sarcastic humour always set the tone for laughter in his company!
"Punky" will always be fondly remembered and loved greatly by those he left behind!
A private memorial service in his honour will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025 at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg at 603 Wellington Crescent.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Diabetes Canada.

Mike will be greatly missed on Mars Drive. He always made sure to check on us and see if we needed anything. He always had a smile on his face whenever driving past our house. May you rest in peace, Mr. Silman. I'll miss our chats. - Posted by: Liana, Rosa and Emily Di Noto (Neighbours) on: May 19, 2025

The Silman boys will always hold a special place in our hearts. Fun cousins always. It was a joy to reconnect with Mike in later years which extended to his brothers as well. I will miss Mike's emails and updates, as well as the attached photos he sent. Reading them always brought a chuckle and just made the day better. Rest in peace cous. Blessings to Ben and Rebecca and all the family. - Posted by: Cindy and Steve Brennan (cousin) on: May 18, 2025

Our heartfelt condolences to Ben and his family during this time of grief. Seeing Mike in the neighbourhood, always resulted in each of us stopping what we were doing, so we could have a visit and a great conversation. For as long as we've known each other, Mike never missed an opportunity to verbalize how proud he was of his son. I have no doubt, Mike will be that angel on Ben's shoulder, always. - Posted by: Tracy Szumlak (Stan/Maddison) (Neighbors (friend)) on: May 18, 2025

Ben and family, I am so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I have many fond memories of all of us "hanging out" in the hockey arenas, as you and Tom were growing up. May these fond memories bring you comfort and peace. - Posted by: Diane (Friend) on: May 17, 2025

My condolences to the family. I always enjoyed heading out to the ball field to help Mike coach his son and my son. I loved his enthusiasm and sarcastic wit because it always made me laugh. He will be missed here on earth but going to his Field of Dreams. Bill. - Posted by: Bill McCausland (Assistant coach/Friend) on: May 17, 2025

Our heartfelt condolences to Ben and his family. Our son's grew up together, playing hockey, going to school, and being mischievous!. Mike was never at a loss with a good story whenever we had the opportunity to chat. But nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than talking about Ben. When the opportunity presented itself, Mike never hesitated to verbalize how very proud he was of Ben, both, as a child and as an adult. Our thoughts are with you during your time of grief. - Posted by: Tracy Szumlak (Neighbor) on: May 17, 2025
