With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sylvia Joyce Chernichan on January 6, 2025 at Betel Personal Care Home in Selkirk after a short illness.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Paul, son Howard Bowe, father William Webster Sr., mother Ella Tefs, stepfather William Tefs, brother William Webster Jr., sister Virginia Seslija and granddaughter Rebecca Bowe.
She is survived by her son Jeff Chernichan, grandson and granddaughter Gabe and Stacy Bowe, and brother-in-law Robert Seslija.
Joyce was born in Winnipeg on May 8, 1934 and resided on the family farm in Fannystelle until she moved back to Winnipeg to finish her schooling.
She was a data process operator at IBM, Canada Packers and University of Winnipeg where she retired after 18 years of service. She was part of the team that implemented the first computer at the Canadian Wheat Board when she worked at IBM.
Mom was an excellent cook, medic and enjoyed hosting family gatherings, and also loved to travel with Paul when time permitted, dipping her toes in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
During the gardening season, Mom would be found tending to her large garden. Mom and Dad also loved dressing up in costumes to volunteer at Lower Fort Garry driving horse drawn wagons, touring visitors through the grounds.
Graveside service will be held on May 24, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to your charity of choice.
