Sorry to learn of Sister Jackie's passing. My memory of Sister goes back almost 70 years when she came to King George School in Brandon to student teach. Her name in religion was Sister Mary Louise. She came with another, by the name of Sister Mary Dominic. They were among my first memories of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions and I might add, pleasant memories. May her soul be safe in the arms of the Good Shepherd Jesus. Father Dominic Yuen. - Posted by: Father Dominic Yuen (friend) on: Jun 21, 2025

Sister Jackie was an incredible, very astute educator. In dialogue about teaching staff, student body and parents she displayed love and care, or expressed concern and rejoiced in well-being and success. We cherish loving memories of her warm caring ways. - Posted by: Sister L. Van Belleghem, S.J.J.M. And Sister P. Atkins, S.N.J.M. (Friends) on: May 17, 2025

Jackie Bartush taught me grade 9 English at General Byng School in Winnipeg in the mid-1970's. She was well ahead of her time as a teacher. She incorporated popular culture into her lessons - for example, letting us take, analyse and present song lyrics of the day in front of the class (I still recall fellow student, Richard T., presenting the lyrics to King Herod's Song from Jesus Christ Superstar with Jackie raising an eyebrow here and there during his presentation!). Jackie had a fine sense of humour and play and was not above pranking friends in order to teach a well-deserved lesson. She told a story one day of a fellow nun unwilling to drive a young child home, leaving him to walk home in the freezing, brutal Winnipeg winter. According to Jackie, she called this selfish nun in a panic, relaying the tragic news that the poor, unfortunate little boy - scared, alone and cold - had met with a catastrophic accident of tragic proportions while walking home - namely, he peed his pants which, in short order, rapidly froze solid a certain very important part of his anatomy, very likely resulting in serious and life-long physical challenges given the damage! Jackie was a thoughtful and truly exceptional teacher well ahead of her time! I am grateful that our lives intersected. - Posted by: Paul McLennan (Former student) on: May 17, 2025
