It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Doreen Ridler (nee Mehner), on May 17, 2025. Predeceased by her husband Arthur, and siblings; Lee, Jack, George, Alf, and Margaret. She is survived by her son Brian (Kathy); daughter Lori (Neil); grandchildren Michael (Megan), Kyle (Kelsey), Rebecca (Randy), and Justin (Prima); her beloved great-grandchildren Gavin and Logan; and special friend Mary.
Doreen was born on July 25, 1929, and grew up near many relatives in Elmwood. She was baptized, schooled, confirmed, and married at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where she was still an active member. She was very skilled at sewing, needlepoint, knitting, and cooking. Many friends and family were rewarded with her specially cooked meals and treats. She always enjoyed family gatherings and playing cards with friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 708 McCalman Avenue in Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her church or a charity of your choice.

To all the Ridler family, I saw your mom in church many times as I was growing up. I too am a lifetime member of Holy Cross. I loved watching her fine example, see her laughter and watching friendships around her grow. It wasn't until later in life that along with her friendship to Mary Babiak that I got to spend some time with her having lunches / breakfast together and chit-chatting about plants in the house. Until we meet again my dear sister! Love and condolence to all of the family. - Posted by: Penny Kau (Sister-in-Christ) on: Jun 13, 2025

My dear Aunt Doreen was a kind and gentle lady. She had a quiet strength that touched my heart. She and my mother were lifelong allies. She was independent, resilient and strong. She will surely be missed by many. I will think of her with a smile. My deepest condolences to your whole family as you grieve this loss. - Posted by: Gerilyn Funk (Niece) on: Jun 12, 2025

We were sorry to hear of Doreen’s passing. We have many fond memories of visiting her at her home on Talbot with Mom, Tillie Schledewitz, Edna Vetter, and George Kullman. Oh the stories that went on between those three. Sorry for your loss, Brian & Jane Schledewitz - Posted by: Brian & Jane Schledewitz (Related through Mother Tillie Schledewitz) on: Jun 08, 2025

My deepest condolences to Doreen's family. I was so very sorry to read of Doreen's passing. Doris and Doreen met at the hospital many years ago sharing the grief of their husbands' illnesses. It became a friendship that lasted through the years. She was such a caring thoughtful person, and I know my mother truly enjoyed her company and conversation until her health prevented that. Doreen and I had many a conversation when my mother could not, which I really appreciated. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Doris Morgan & Sandra Colp (Friend) on: Jun 01, 2025
