ALICE RUTH CARR

After many ups and downs with her health issues, Ruth left us to be with Dad the morning of May 29, 2025, at the Health Sciences Centre, with her son, Jack, daughter-in-law Mariella and granddaughter Meghan.

Ruth is survived by sons, Michael (Cheryl), Bill (Heather), Jack (Mariella), five loving grandchildren, Brody, Sean (Bill and Heather), Meghan, Kaitlyn and Emily (Jack and Mariella), two step-grandchildren, Tammy Jensen and Chad Jensen (Keri), their children and others that held a special place in her heart. She is survived by her sister Gerry, a few sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law across the way, as well as many nieces and nephews. (As Mom would say on this side of the pond and across the way). She was the glue that held not only our family together but throughout her life she brought others together as well. She spent 40 plus years in Thompson, MB before she and dad would move to Winnipeg.

She was predeceased by our father, Michael John Carr “Micko”, sisters, Joan (Ed), Dian (Calum), brothers, Jim and Jack, and brother-in-law Roy as well as rellies on Dad’s side. By her early 20s as many know she would decide to travel to Manitoba to visit her sister Joan and brother-in-law Ed where she would meet our father on the train from Winnipeg to Thompson. The rest is history, they would marry and raise three sons. Mom worked for roughly 20 years for the Federal Government, retired and spent a few years with Dad during his retirement.

They loved fiddling around in the yard; both loved flowers and plants of all types. They would eventually move down to Winnipeg in 2004 but would only have three years together as our father passed away December of 2007. Mom lived the remaining years missing Dad but enjoying watching her five grandkids grow up. So as mom would always say these last few years: “so now it’s Oiche mhaith to all my family, friends and rellies on this side of the pond and Maidin mhaith to the rest of my family, friends and rellies across the pond.” Prayers for you all and God bless.

Our hearts are broken but we know you are with Dad and once again sitting around a table blowing out birthday candles again. (don’t puff out those cheeks too much it might hurt) - until we see you again. Love from us all.

In lieu of flowers, find a charity close to your heart, or give to an animal shelter, cats were her love. Think of her often.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Ann’s Church, 271 Hampton St., Winnipeg, with interment and reception to be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave.

  • My father Jack Metcalfe is Ruth's brother. I have wonderful memories of Aunt Ruth at various family gatherings from my youth. May Aunt Ruth rest in peace and may her memories be a blessing. She will be missed. Bill Metcalfe - Posted by: William Metcalfe (Aunt Ruth) on: Jun 09, 2025
