ALEXANDER KURT LEHNERT

Remembered with love, Alexander passed away peacefully with family at his side on May 25, 2025, at age 94, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Alexander was born in Riga, Latvia on June 24, 1930. He was predeceased by his wife Ann (Rempel) Lehnert, his parents Alexander Otto Theofil Lehnerts (Lehnert) of Kuldiga, Latvia and Erika Anna Lehnerts (Lehnert, nee Hall (Hals) of Riga, Latvia, and his older brother William Paul Lehnert of Riga, Latvia.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his three daughters, Sandra Ann Rempel (Warren Clarence), Lori Ericka Mary Lehnert, and Corinne Patricia Sandhurst (Geoff), and his two grandchildren, Kierra Mercedes Quinn Sandhurst and Caelin Wolf Alexander Sandhurst.

Alex immigrated to Canada in 1950, landing first in Halifax. Soon he arrived in Winnipeg, settling here for the rest of his life. He met his beloved Ann when she was 16 years old on June 16, 1951. They were engaged on December 24 that year and were married April 19, 1952. They had been together until the passing of Ann in 2022, last celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on April 17, 2022. He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Shortly after arriving in Winnipeg, Alexander was hired by Joy Manufacturing (previously Alpha Fan) where he worked for 34 years, rising through the ranks, first as an exceptional machinist, then promoted to foreman, and then supervisor. He retired at 65, following 10 years in the Maintenance Department at Victoria Hospital.

He and Ann both greatly enjoyed nature and traveling. Between their fun and exciting family camping trips across Canada, their many years spent at their hand-built cottage in Grindstone Provincial Park, and reminiscing about trips to Europe and European relatives, they shared many wonderful experiences. He and Ann were longstanding members of the First Mennonite Church and also enjoyed many Sundays there with their relatives and friends.

The family is grateful to Dr. Zeid and his care team at St. Boniface Hospital, and grateful to Dr. Ann Huot, and the exceptional care team at the Riverview Health Center; Palliative Care Unit for the outstanding and compassionate care he and his family received.

The Celebration of Life service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on June 26 at 2:00 p.m., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3K 1W3 with Rev. David Driedger officiating. Viewing will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Relatives and friends will be received for a reception immediately following the service and interment. Flowers are welcome.
