It is with great sadness we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Bob, who passed away on June 16, 2025, at the Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg.
Bob is survived by his soul mate and wife of 60 years, Linda; son Kevin and daughter-in-law Deanna; grandsons, Robert and Geoff; granddaughter Jorja; brother Don and sister Lynn (Harold); sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Bill) Bumstead and Marylou (Larry) Doyle; many nieces and nephews and countless friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Shannon and his brother Brian.
Bob was born in Sudbury, Ontario, spending his younger years in Fort Frances and at the age of 12 decided he wanted to join the RCMP. On April 13, 1962, he began his distinguished career with the RCMP dedicating his life to service and the community. Bob served in Manitoba, Ottawa, Saskatchewan and Alberta in various roles and Detachments. He received his commission to the rank of Inspector in 1986 and promoted to the rank of Superintendent in 1994. Retiring from the Force as the Officer Commanding Calgary Subdivision in 1997, completing 35 years of service. Of the many accomplishments in his career his most cherished memory was swearing his son into the RCMP in 1990. His tenure with the RCMP was marked by unwavering professionalism and a deep sense of duty that earned the respect of colleagues and those he served.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob truly loved spending time with family and friends. He found great joy in his many hobbies which included playing and coaching hockey, baseball, golf, snowmobiling, camping, fishing, travelling, puzzles, repairing things and construction at home or to help family and friends. After retirement Bob and Linda spent time travelling in their 5th wheel and ended up leasing a permanent RV site at Cherry Hill near Steinbach. They entertained family and friends, taking great joy and pride in looking after their grandchildren on summer visits. Bob and Linda also enjoyed travelling to Arizona during the winter months. Bob also kept busy after retirement in various roles as a private investigator, an investigator with Elections Manitoba and Elections Canada, a court usher with the Federal Court and as the President of the Manitoba RCMP Veterans Association.
Rest in peace dear Bob; you will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba in Bob’s memory.
