I am deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Bernard. From 1978 - 79, he was my grade seven homeroom and french teacher. I have very fond memories of Bernard. He was such a “classy dude” with his velour shirts and fountain pens. He had a wonderful British accent. During Unity Week, he held BOLAND’S BASH - which was always a lot of fun. Bernard was a gifted actor and artistic director. It was really nice to reconnect with Bernard in 2018. During our many telephone conversations we shared our life stories and experiences. He was a lovely man who lived life to its fullest. He had a beautiful heart and soul. It has been a great honour and privilege to have known him. He was a kind gentle person and good friend. I will miss him tremendously. I send my sincere condolences to his wife and family. Take care. Lori David (student and friend) - Posted by: Lori David (Student & friend) on: Jul 17, 2025

I was sad to hear of Bernard's passing. I met him through friends at a barbecue, then got to enjoy his performances in many plays. He was a master at what he did and entertaining both on and off the stage. My condolences to Joan, family and all who loved him! - Posted by: Jennet Pidgeon (Friend) on: Jul 14, 2025

Bernard was such a pleasant and personable person. It was such a treat when he did the scripture readings or just made announcements. I would just sit and enjoy!!! It was a shock when I heard that he’d passed. He will be missed. - Posted by: Vinny Ashton (Church member) on: Jul 07, 2025

I was Bernard's dental hygienist for 17 years. We always spent the first 15 minutes of every appointment catching up on Bernard's many acting projects. When I met him he told me the story of losing his wife and while I am sure he was sad, he knew what made him happy and grasped life by the tail. He always came energized and excited with a new script in hand that he was working on memorizing. His lovely British diction made him a popular choice for audio jobs. One day I was surprised to hear that a beautiful romance had sprung up between himself and Joan, a fellow actor in a play he was working on. If I had imagined he was one of my happiest patients before Joan, now he was over the moon! It was beautiful to see his love for Joan blossom. I was proud to know Bernard and I made sure to attend many of his plays and even managed to see one where Joan and he played a husband and wife part. It is a great loss to have lost him to this world. He was one of a kind. I know he is making heaven an even more beautiful place. Goodbye Bernard. - Posted by: Miriam Neuman (Friend) on: Jul 05, 2025

Mr. Boland was my Grade 10 home room teacher at St. John’s High School in Winnipeg’s North End. I remember his thespian tendencies well, in particular when he held my report card between two fingers on one hand while holding his nose with the other! He was a very kind and thoughtful French teacher and will be very fondly remembered. - Posted by: John Marczyk (Student) on: Jul 05, 2025

I worked at the dental practice that Bernard attended. This shows how he touched everyone he met with his positivity and zest for life. I’m actually shocked to see his age, as he approached life like a man half his age. I loved speaking with him about his passion for acting and he was know as our resident celebrity. This would make him laugh and he would just shake his head in humility. What a life well led. His kindness and smile will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences to his family. - Posted by: Colleen Boyko (Friend) on: Jul 05, 2025
