Gerhard (George) Thiessen passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, at the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 78.
George was born on December 3, 1946, in Brauweiler, Germany, to Dietrich and Susanne (née Schellenberg) Thiessen. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Nora Ann Janette Thiessen, his parents, and his sister Susan Epp. He is survived by his siblings, Peter (Edith) Thiessen, Henry (Annita) Thiessen, and Annie (Peter) Schroeder; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Anita, and her husband Gordon Barron; his grandchildren, Michael (Andrea) Chuba and Kimberly (Kyle) DeVisser; and his great-grandchildren, Aspen and Ryker Chuba and Bailey and Bethany DeVisser.
George will be remembered for his strength, deep faith, and unwavering love for his family. Known for his strong opinions and fondness for a good argument, he was always ready to help and stand by those he loved. He had a lifelong passion for travel and found great joy in the beauty of the mountains.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch Street, Winnipeg, with viewing starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Chapel Lawn Cemetery.
