James Barrie Cranston passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital on July 4, 2025, with the love of his life, his wife Sally, by his side.
Born in Winnipeg in 1936, to Mable (Hicks) and James Cranston he was a North-end Scottish lad that went on to create a fortunate and beautiful life of love, happiness and joy in the River Heights neighbourhood with Sally, his wife of 61 years, and daughter Jennifer.
His entrepreneurial career saw him create a successful business in the Canadian retail market for over 35 years, going on to enjoy retirement and pursue travel, golf and cottage time where he was truly his happiest.
He loved jazz and the WSO, and was a prolific attendant to the cultural offerings that Winnipeg did and does offer. He was loved for his kindness, great sense of humour, constant curiosity and devotion to his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Sally (Slade) and daughter Jennifer, both of whom will truly miss him so.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Alzheimer Association of Manitoba.
