HAROLD DAVID SIMPSON

June 27, 1940 - June 29, 2025

In Loving Memory

It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of our dear Dave on June 29, 2025, just two days after his 85th birthday.

Harold David Simpson was born in Winnipeg, on June 27, 1940. In 1948 he moved to Toronto, Ontario with his parents where he attended local high schools and UNB, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts. He joined GM and moved to Oshawa in the 60s, before returning to Winnipeg in 1970 to pursue a new career path. He spent many years working in the bakery department at Safeway, where he was known for his reliability and quiet dedication.

Over four decades ago, Dave formed a lasting friendship with Syd at the Reh-Fit Centre, leading to his heartfelt adoption into the Manitoba Reimer family. From that point on, Dave became a cherished presence at countless family gatherings. He was also known as "my brother by another mother". Though soft-spoken, he deeply valued being part of the joyful chaos, always observing with a warm smile and quiet delight. His generosity spoke volumes - never more evident than at Syd’s 90th birthday celebration, when Dave made sure the entire family could be together by arranging travel for out-of-province relatives. It was clear he took just as much joy in the surprises and reunions as everyone else.

Dave will be fondly remembered for his thoughtful gifts - shrimp rings, fruit bouquets, and beautifully timed flower arrangements for every get-well wish or celebration. His kind gestures touched many and will not be forgotten.

Cremation has taken place, and Dave will be laid to rest in Ontario.

He is survived by his brother Bob (Dianne), his nephew Bob (Alison), niece Jane (Rob), and their families in Ontario.

Dave will be dearly missed by both his family and his Manitoba family and friends. We are truly grateful to have known him.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My husband and I were neighbours of Dave's since 1988. As a matter of fact we own the house that was once owned by his aunts, he told us he even lived in our house with them for awhile. Dave was a soft spoken person who was always happy to stop and chat. He had a smile for everyone. We were so very saddened to hear of his passing. Dave was a true gentleman. Our sincerest condolences to his family and close friends. We know that he will be missed. - Posted by: Debbie Adamchuk (neighbour) on: Jul 20, 2025

  • It is with sadness that I read about Dave's passing. I had occasion to see Dave when I attended to meetings at the Empress Bakery Plant in Winnipeg. Dave was in the Administration team of the bakery and would always welcome you in the office with a pleasant greeting. I remember most Dave's smile that proceeded his cheerful greeting. My condolences to Dave's family. Lou Hogan, Calgary - Posted by: Lou Hogan (Colleague - Safeway) on: Jul 12, 2025
