Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLAFIA (OLIVIA) GRACE STANLEY
It is with profound sorrow that we announce Mom’s passing at the age of 96 at the Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg surrounded by her family after a brief illness.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her three sons; Dale (Laurie), Lorne (Candace), Trevor (Judy), grandchildren; Kevin (Megan), Jason, Antonia (Elio), Stefanie (Adam) and TJ (Des), great-grandchildren; Lennon, Lucy, Annalia and Vienna. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth "Beta" Corkal and many other relatives and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband Ervin “Stan", parents Larus & Margaret, siblings Laura (Schappert), Aldis & Richard.
Olivia was born in Arborg, MB and was the eldest. Her first job was at the North Star Creamery where her father and brother worked. She moved to Winnipeg with her sister Laura and worked at Silverwoods Dairy until she met the love of her life Stan at a dance while he was travelling through Manitoba with the Armed Forces. They were married in 1953 and celebrated 51 years together before Stan’s passing in 2005.
Olivia was a stay at home mom while raising her boys as well as fostering children. She went on to take a clerical position at the Eaton’s grocery store in downtown Winnipeg until her retirement in 1989. Olivia loved family gatherings and would light up when anyone came to visit her. She was very proud of her Icelandic heritage and was able to visit Iceland once. She loved going to the annual Icelandic Celebration in Gimli. After Stan’s passing, mom lived on her own in the family home until 2024 when she moved to Seine River Retirement Residence with her suite being just down the hall from her sister Beta.
Cremation has taken place and her urn will be placed next to Stan’s at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the Seine River staff and residents, Loreta the Friendly Caregiver and especially her sister Beta for all their care and compassion. She truly felt like she was part of a large family there. Thanks also to the staff at Concordia Hospital for making mom’s last days as comfortable as possible and treating her with compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Olivia’s name to a charity of your choice.

Dale, Lorne and Trevor, I recently I drove on Stewart Street to show our grandson where his great-grandparents used to live and pointed out the house where you grew up. My parents Archie and Cynthia were neighbours and friends of your parents. I’m saddened to read about the loss of your dear mother, she was a lovely woman. My deepest sympathy to you and your families. - Posted by: Judy Labossiere (Former Neighbour) on: Jul 21, 2025
