CLYDE (BARRY) CAMPBELL

May 29, 1938 - July 10, 2025

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Barry Campbell on July 10, 2025, in Winnipeg.

Barry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Verna (nee Syrnyk), his son and daughter, Alan and Marlo, his sister, Bonnie, his brother, Dan (Betty), and his nieces and nephews.

Barry grew up in Sherridon and Swan River, and lived most of his life in Winnipeg. A lifelong learner, his intellectual curiosity and playful spirit led him to a career in teaching. To Barry, every moment was a teachable moment, in and out of the classroom.

Barry was a devout Christian who lived by his faith. He was kind, gentle and loving, and took great pride in his family. He made a difference in the world and in the lives of the people he touched. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Prairie Spirit United Church, 207 Thompson Drive.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • My deepest condolences to Al, Marlo, and Mrs. C. I'm absolutely heartbroken for you, in the passing of this amazing man. I have so many wonderful memories of this great man. The gentlest of souls, the only moment you could ever fear him was when he let loose one of those Richter Scale moving sneezes, that I swear I could hear from 8 doors down. Other than in cold and flu season, the most composed and kind hearted man you could ever ask for, who would absolutely give the shirt off him back to any or all of his family, and I truly believe his family's friends. I always felt welcome in that house... Even ringing the bell at 7am and asking for the 3rs time if Al was up yet. Mr. C never got mad and had infinite patience for me, Al, our friends, and all of our tomfoolery. His house was always our go-to house to come and crash at, and that in no small part was because Mr. C. Made sure we always felt safe there. You will be so terribly missed here, but the angels above will be welcoming an amazing soul. Unfortunately I will be in Ontario on the 31st, but please know all my thoughts and love are with you Campbell's. May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. - Posted by: Grant Kummen (Friend and neighbour) on: Jul 22, 2025

  • My sincere condolences to the family and friends. Mr. Campbell was my grade 5 teacher in 1964. I always remembered his classroom as a place where learning was a good experience. The foundation for enjoying school and learning was set for me in that classroom. He was my favorite teacher. RIP Mr. Campbell - Posted by: Joanne Partridge-Russo (Former student) on: Jul 19, 2025

  • My deepest sympathy to the family. I worked with Barry for many years at Brooklands. He was well liked and respected by all. - Posted by: Mark Zebrun (Co worker) on: Jul 19, 2025

  • Please accept my sincere Condolences. Mr. Campbell was my grade 5 teacher at Robert Browning in 1965. He was my favorite elementary school teacher. I was also fortunate to have him teach both of my girls at Lakewood School. We have a picture of the four of us that we treasure. Whenever I bumped into him at the store, it was always such a pleasure to have a short visit. A wonderful teacher that provided us all with such good memories. - Posted by: Joy (MacDonald) Marsh (Former student) on: Jul 19, 2025

  • My sincere sympathy to all of you on your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. RIP Barry. - Posted by: donna passante (cousin) on: Jul 19, 2025
