It is with profound sadness yet such gratitude that we announce the passing of Olga Rudniski at 101 years of age. Beloved wife, mother, baba, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Olga Huculak was born March 27th, 1924, in Rackham, Manitoba a small community east of Sandy Lake. Olga’s father Alex immigrated to the Sandy Lake area in 1910 where he would work and eventually buy land. In 1923, 13 years later Olga’s mother Fedora came to Canada where they would reunite and start their beautiful family.
Walter and Olga were the first to arrive followed by Nick, Bill, Mary, Jean, John, Frances, Zenova and Pauline.
Being the oldest daughter Olga spent countless hours helping her mom cook, clean and essentially helped raise her siblings. She would learn so much from her mom over the years.
Later when she was a teenager she worked at the McKays Ice Cream Parlour at Clear Lake. They would later offer her a job at the Creamery. She was never afraid of hard work.
In 1948 she would attend her sister Mary’s wedding where she would meet the love of her life. As she described it … it was love at first sight. A tall lean handsome young man that she thought looked like a movie actor. His name was Frank Rudniski, and he would be her future husband. Frank and Olga married and worked on the Rudniski family farm. In 1951 their daughter Dianne would arrive followed a short 13 months later by son Brian.
In 1957 Frank, Olga and the kids would move to Brandon and settle on Balsam Crescent. Olga worked at Perth’s Dry cleaning for over 20 years as they raised their family.
Dianne would bless them with two beautiful granddaughters, Tammy and Tracey. Years later Brian would add to the family with twin girls, Danna and Alanna. Four beautiful granddaughters for them to love and spoil. And they sure did.
Sadly in 1988 Frank would pass away. That loss left a huge hole in everyone’s heart, especially Olga’s. But she would persevere. She was so strong and carried on with grace and dignity.
In 2009 granddaughter Tracey and her husband Darren would thrill the entire family with the birth of their son Jackson followed by a second son Kashton in 2011.
Olga is one of a kind. She has spent her life caring for and loving her family. She was an amazing cook. There were countless family suppers with all the Ukrainian dishes, cabbage rolls, perogies, jellied meat, Keestew, orange soup, caramel cake, rice crispy and puff wheat cake just to name a few. She had her own garden until she was 93, canning tomatoes and pickling cucumbers, beets and carrots. She was an amazing homemaker. In her own way she guided all of our lives.
In 2018 at the age of 94 she moved into Fairview so she could live closer to Dianne. They would reside across the hall from each other for seven years.
Olga is survived by her daughter Dianne Baker, granddaughters Tammy Baker (Jim Cleave), Tracey Tremblay (Darren) great-grandsons Jackson and Kashton Tremblay. Son Brian (Bird) Rudniski (Lynn), granddaughters Danna Creighton (Darren) and Alanna Rudniski (Tim Gregoire).
Sisters Frances Koroscil and Zenova Shindruk; sisters in law Josie Gustafson and Eileen Stan as well as many nieces and nephews.
Olga was predeceased by her parents Alex and Fedora Huculak; husband Frank Rudniski; brothers Walter Huculak, Nick Huculak, Bill Huculak and John Huculak; sisters Mary Zatylny, Jean Morris and Pauline Huculak. Brothers in law John Rudniski, Joe Zatylny, Nick Morris and Lloyd Shindruk, Alvin Gustafson, Metro Stan and Alec Moroz; Sisters in law Stella Huculak, Ann Huculak and Grace Huculak and Emily Moroz.
