JANET FLYNN
Sadly, we announce the loss of our mother Janet on July 24, 2025. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by love.
Her memory will be treasured by her two children, Bill (Meaghan) and Theresa (Geoff); her grandson Thomas; her sister-in-law Eileen and brother-in-law Dave; her sister-in-law Pat and brother-in-law Mike; her sister Diane and brother George; and nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Frank Ross, and by her loving husband of 44 years Patrick.
Janet had a joyful childhood, growing up in West Kildonan. She had such fond memories of that neighbourhood, her lifelong friend Marilyn and trips to the lake with her family.
After finishing high school at Garden City Collegiate, she took courses in business administration. One of her first jobs was at Mac Trucking where she met her future husband Pat. She went on to work as a secretary for many years at different property management firms downtown.
Janet loved to cook. She especially enjoyed challenging herself with difficult recipes. She made magnificent meals for guests, and for family. She loved live shows - the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Manitoba Theatre Centre and especially Rainbow Stage every summer.
Anyone who knew her well knew she was an avid reader. She had a deep curiosity about the world and read a wide variety of books all through her life. She especially loved mysteries and spy novels, and also non-fiction scientific or historical books and biographies. She would often recommend a meaningful book for people in her life.
In retirement she enjoyed travelling with Pat - to Banff, Victoria and Niagara Falls. She also enjoyed gardening and taking care of her young grandson.
She was the best mother and we never doubted her love and support. She was always ready to listen, to offer advice and comfort. She always let us know how proud she was - even in the smaller moments. We have years of precious memories because of how hard she worked to build them. Halloween costumes she created, birthday cakes she baked, board games and movie nights, holiday dinners. She took an interest in our interests - whatever they were in the moment. She taught us how to cook - and when we moved out and forgot how to cook, she was there on the phone to remind us. She was a tremendous example of kindness, generosity, forgiveness and gratitude.
In her final years, Janet struggled with poor health and limited mobility. We would like to thank the staff at Charleswood Care Centre and at the Simkin Centre for their compassionate care and attention.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave.
