COLLEEN FOSTER

May 19, 1967 – July 27, 2025

It is with enormous sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Colleen Dawn Foster.

Colleen is predeceased by her father Ken David. She leaves to mourn her husband Gus Foster; mother Diane David; brother Brant; sister Heather; niece Courtney and nephew Bradley. She will be deeply missed by the many members of her extended family, as well as the many devoted friends and colleagues she acquired in her 58 years, including nearly 25 years as a teacher.

She grew up in St. James and always spoke fondly of her family times living on Lakeridge Road.

Colleen’s work as a teacher was marked by her dedication to task, her ability to work very well with colleagues, and especially by her devotion to the kids in her classroom. Colleen worked in programs that focused on deaf and hard of hearing children, she worked in reading recovery programs, eventually she worked as a math support teacher; visiting schools, assisting and advising teachers in their lessons and techniques. She spent countless hours at home every evening researching, organizing, and creating materials to help students.

Colleen was beautiful in every sense of the word. She was kind, generous, loving, energetic, selfless, and yes, she was a beautiful woman. She will be ever so deeply missed by all by all who knew her; and if you knew Colleen, you could not help but love her.

In memory of Colleen, please help to keep alive the memory of someone she deeply admired; Terry Fox. Please get involved in a Terry Fox Run in September. Colleen did so much to encourage others in schools to take part, it would bring a smile to her lovely face.

Family and friends are warmly invited to help celebrate Colleen’s life and memory at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a viewing, with a reception to follow on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. also at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • *In Loving Memory of Colleen David* *To Gus, Mrs. David, Brant, Heather, Courtney, and Bradley,* *_With a heart full of sorrow and gratitude, I send you my deepest condolences for the passing of my dear friend Colleen._* _When I first arrived in Winnipeg for high school, Colleen was one of the few who truly saw me. She took me under her wing — helping me with my homework, lifting my spirits, and showing me what kindness, patience, and genuine friendship looked like. Even then, it was clear that she was a teacher at heart. She had a gift — not just for explaining things, but for lifting people up, and making them feel seen, understood, and capable._ _Those were some of the best days of my youth. We laughed often, shared dreams, and made memories that are etched in my soul. Later, I had the joy of witnessing her meet Gus — what seemed like a casual theatre outing turned into the beginning of a love story. She knew. She always did._ _Over the years, despite the distance between us, our connection never faded. We stayed in touch, always catching up with excitement — as if no time had passed. I’ll never forget the time we spent at a beautiful cabin north of Manitoba — the crisp air, the laughter, the endless stories... and the meals! Colleen made the best salads and the most delicious salmon. She was a wonderful cook, and every meal was a moment of joy._ _We shared glasses of wine, dreams, and even our passion for photography. One time, after a visit back to Mexico, she gave me my first photo album — filled with memories she had lovingly captured and arranged. That was her way — always thoughtful, always giving, always putting love into everything she did._ _I remember standing by her during a very painful surgery on her feet. She never once complained. Colleen was strong — stronger than most — and her grace in pain was inspiring. She battled arthritis with courage and dignity, never letting it define her._ *Colleen was not just a good friend — she was an extraordinary one. Loyal, loving, wise, and warm. Her laughter, her voice, her spirit — they live on in me and in all of us who were lucky enough to be loved by her.* _To Gus — my friend, now and always — and to the entire David family: Mrs. David, Brant, Heather, and to her beloved niece and nephew, Courtney and Bradley — please know that my heart is with you. I send you a great, big, warm hug from afar. May you find peace in knowing that Colleen left behind a legacy of light and love. Heaven has gained an angel, and we — we will carry her in our hearts, forever._ _With all my love,_ Alejandra Carranco - Posted by: ALEJANDRA CARRANCO (COLLEEN'S FRIEND) on: Aug 03, 2025

  • So very sorry to know that Colleen has passed. It doesn't seem possible that someone as full of life as Colleen is not here making jokes, sharing memories, and showing gratitude. I knew Colleen starting at Smitty's where we worked together and, in no time at all, began a fast and furious friendship that would become lifelong. Colleen had a fierce loyalty to her family that quickly extended to anyone in her close friendship circle. I feel lucky to have been one of those on the receiving end. Over the years, Colleen and I shared SO many laughs, a few drinks, tons of dancing, traveling, and so, so much more. We were there when each of us graduated Education. We were there when each of us got married. It was incredible to see Colleen and Gus pledge their love to one another and then to watch their devotion grow over the years. Gus, you know all too well that Colleen was an amazing, loving, selfless partner. And how lovely that that's exactly what she had in you. • I count myself so fortunate to have worked with Colleen. We began the Middle Years math project the same time and rode it out to the end. She was always in good humour and never failed to be insightful and curious. She truly wanted everyone to be the best they could be. She will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Neil Dempsey (Co-worker) on: Aug 02, 2025

  • My Condolences to the family and especially Gus. I had the opportunity to get to know Colleen through serving her at Boston pizza. I looked forward to every single time they came in. Colleen was truly one of the nicest, kindest, most beautiful souls I have ever met. She took the time to get to know me and took an interest in my life and my schooling which she never had to do, always asking how it was going and encouraging me. She got to know all of us servers at Boston Pizza and everyone of us looked forward to her coming in. She was thoughtful and genuine. The love that Gus and Colleen had for each other was something out of a movie. It was truly special to see them interact. I will miss seeing her at Boston Pizza and getting her red wine ready. I want to thank her for taking the time to get to know me, always asking me how my life was going, encouraging me and being a genuine kind individual. Condolences again to Gus and the family and friends of the beautiful Colleen. - Posted by: Chelsea (Boston Pizza) on: Aug 02, 2025
