JANET VIOLA SHERWOOD

(nee WINNIK)

March 8, 1922 - July 30, 2025

Janet passed away on July 30, 2025, with family by her side.

She is survived by her loving son, Donald, and his wife, Colleen, and their daughter, Nicole. She is also survived by her beloved daughter Brenda and her husband David Newman and their family - sons Jim (Meredith), Jeff (Robyn), and daughter Jody (Miles), as well as grandchildren Paige, William, Fenn and Elis. Also, Janet’s niece Melanie Penner, whom she loved dearly and many relatives in Oregon, Detroit, Florida and Germany.

Janet was predeceased by her husband Edward (Ted) in 2007, sisters Helen (in infancy) and Ellie, and her husband Al Penner, brother Edward Winnik and his wife Josephine and niece Adele Morton.

Janet joined the RCAF in March 1942 as a nurse and was proud of her service to her country. She always enjoyed attending reunions and luncheons.

Her family always came first. She was so very proud of her son and daughter. She was also proud of her granddaughter, Nicole, who was always there for Janet. Especially when Janet’s husband was ill. She enjoyed making large dinners for her family and friends. Her sense of humour always stayed with her.

Janet loved animals. Many deer and birds who came to their home in Charleswood were given food and water by her.

Janet went to Churchill, MB, in November 2012 with Brenda and David. She took many wonderful photos during the polar bear tours, which she displayed in her home.

Janet supported the Charleswood Art Group. A self-taught artist, she enjoyed painting scenes, people, and abstracts.

She was also a member of the Norwood Bowling League and continued to bowl into her 90s. She met many wonderful friends there.

Her family would like to give a special thank you to the Grace Hospital staff on 5 South and the E.R. department. for the wonderful care they gave Janet during her short stay, and for the kindness the family was shown. It was greatly appreciated.

The family would also like to thank Rev. Val From for her visit with Janet.

At her request, there will be no formal funeral.

Donations may be made to the Salvation Army or your choice.

What a wonderful life - 37,769 great days.
