It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Eugene Regehr, 97 years old, at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home in the early morning hours of August 14, 2025.
Eugene is survived by his children, Herb (Cindy), Donald, Reynold (Karis); grandchildren, Liana (Amanda), Trevor, Andrew, Adam and Evan; great- grandchildren, Bowen and Lily; his twin sister Mary Dueck and sisters, Irene (Herman) Unger and Lorraine (Charles) Harms. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years Helen (DeFehr), parents Jacob and Evdokia (Korolkova), Jacob’s second wife Anna (Braun), brother-in-law Henry Dueck, sister Anne (Regehr) Dyck and brother-in-law Frank Dyck, step-sister Olga (Braun) Klassen and step-brother-in-law John Klassen; and his foster son Paul Kovacs.
Eugene lived his whole life in Winnipeg, both North and East Kildonan, attending elementary school at Lord Kitchener (now John Pritchard) and then high school at MCI in Gretna, Manitoba and MBCI in Winnipeg.
The printing business was an integral part of Eugene’s life. He started his working career at Henderson Directories as a linotype operator, then worked at Stovel-Advocate Press before joining the family business at Regehr’s Printing, which his father started in his backyard in 1939. Eugene continued the business as sole owner and later in partnership with son Reynold until retiring in 1997.
Eugene was a man of unwavering faith. He was a humble man who reflected his love for God to his family and those around him through acts of service. He showed love by shoveling snow, painting, raking leaves, or fixing things for others. He was a member of the North Kildonan MB Church and later, with Helen, a charter member of the McIvor Avenue MB Church.
Eugene enjoyed a rich family life with Helen while raising their three boys. As a family they travelled throughout North America: camping, sightseeing, watching baseball games, and exploring nature. After their boys had gone, Eugene and Helen welcomed their foster son Paul Kovacs into their home. Paul remained living with Eugene long after Helen passed away.
In retirement, Eugene enjoyed staying connected with his children and grandchildren, helping them in their daily lives, being a kind and caring Opa, and fostering Paul. Eugene also supported Paul in his activities at WASO and at Special Olympics. He often helped out at church by babysitting for “Mom’s Morning Out” and assisting at the Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank.
We would like to extend our thanks to staff at Donwood Manor Elderly Persons Housing (EPH) and Personal Care Home (PCH) for their loving care of our dad in his final years.
Funeral Service to celebrate Eugene’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Eastview Community Church, 315 Maxwell King Drive, East St. Paul. Interment at Glen Eden Cemetery, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, following the service and luncheon.
Donations in memory of Eugene may be made to Donwood Personal Care Home.
