Peacefully, on August 12, surrounded by his three daughters who Stan cherished and adored, he left us to join his Lord.
Stan will be greatly missed by his three daughters: Brenda (Gerry), Cheryl (Vaughn), and Nancy (Forge), and his seven loving grandchildren: Andrew, Alexandra, Quintana, Graeson, Rhonan, Alessandra and Graciella. Stan was predeceased by his beloved wife Evelyn, who he missed every day, and by his first-born daughter Sandra and grandbaby Zachary.
Stan was born to his loving parents, John and Pauline, and grew up in the North End with his three siblings, Walter, Joan, and Cas. He also had six half-siblings. Stan married his young sweetheart, Evelyn, on May 17, 1958. They shared a rich and full life together and cherished one another's companionship. Stan and Evelyn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary just before her passing in 2009.
Stan was known for his humour, lively spirit and party nature. At Isaac Newton High School, the girls voted him the "Casanova" of Room 10 and the sharpest dresser. Of course, with those ocean blue eyes, who could resist? He was one of the original North End Kilda Rocks, and did they rock Grand Beach, Winnipeg Beach and every place in between! Our father was a natural entertainer and performed many times on stage with the mic, singing and dancing, just to rouse the crowd. Stan and Ev were a great dance team, and we know that they are now dancing together once again.
Stan was a hard worker who took great pride in providing for his family, frequently holding down two jobs and eventually retiring as Manager for the City of Winnipeg's Commercial Assessment Department. He retired after 30 years to babysit his first grandson, Andrew.
A talented draftsman and builder, Stan designed and built three family homes and a cherished cottage on Catastrophe Lake in 1975, where he and Evelyn created a welcoming retreat filled with family, friends, and many celebrations, always with copious amounts of food and drink. Stan loved to waterski and often showed off his skills with a beer in hand. Stan’s sharp mind and love for numbers was also evident through his passion for playing bridge and poker.
You could always find Stan following his grandchildren around, as he was their #1 fan. Whether he was watching their hockey and soccer games, driving them to concerts, or just hanging around with their friends, bringing them lunch, snacks and candy, he was everyone's favourite grandpa!
From a young age, Stan was devoted to his faith. He served as an altar boy when he was young, and he and Ev always attended church with their family. Later, he became a Knights of Columbus Member.
Above all, Stanley was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Stan lived a meaningful life, and his absence leaves a huge hole in our hearts. Already, he is missed so much, but the plentiful memories will always live on. We will never forget his generous spirit, sense of humour, and unwavering love for his family and friends - a life well-lived and deeply cherished. Stan had so many “best friends” and now he says “goodbye, my Best Friend.”
We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Kildonan Personal Care Home for taking such great care of Stan for his last four years.
Funeral liturgy will be held at Holy Redeemer Parish, 264 Donwood Drive, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Stanley.

Offering sincere condolences to all the family as you grieve the death of your father and grandfather. I first met the Maycher family when Evelyn came to Emerson Elementary School as a teacher's aide. I have so many fond memories of the staff parties hosted by Stan and Evelyn in their home. Evelyn and I became good friends over the years and it was a pleasure to share stories of the "kids" in their growing up years. Stan was always quick to offer Evelyn's cooking delights for many celebrations. I know it was a a very sad time for Stan at Evelyn's passing after 51 years of a marriage full of adventure, sharing, and caring. Stan's passing leaves a legacy of memories for his family to cherish in the years ahead. With sympathy in your time of sadness. My deepest sympathy on the loss of Stan. What a beautiful tribute to him. That is exactly how I remember him. All the parties and good times at the lake and the great hospitality him and Ev extended to everyone. He was good at playing jokes on people too! He was definitely devoted to his family and grandchildren. Rest in peace Stan and continue to dance with Ev. - Posted by: Vi Desrochers (Friend) on: Aug 23, 2025
