THOMASINA (INA) DRAYSON

December 25, 1926 -

September 21, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ina Drayson on September 21, 2025, at the age of 98.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter Joan Majury, grandchildren Jason Majury, Christine (Justin) Pichlyk and Megan (Matt) Gyles, great-grandchildren Logan Majury, Mason Pichlyk, Avery Pichlyk and Neve Gyles.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 71 years, Herb in 2016 and her son-in-law Kim Majury in 2020. She was also predeceased by all of her siblings.

Ina was born and raised in Dundee, Scotland. She was one of eight children. In 1944, while attending a dance, she met a young Canadian Solider by the name of Herb Drayson. He was clearly captivated by her as shortly after their meeting he travelled to Dundee where he proposed. They were married August 11, 1945, and she travelled to Canada as a young War Bride. They made their home in St. James in Winnipeg and in 1955 completed their family when they adopted their daughter Joan. She was a devoted mother who absolutely loved children.

Ina was a hard worker from the time she arrived in Canada. She was employed at Eaton’s then the Shriners Children’s Hospital. She went on to the Health Science Centre as a lab technician in the Cytology Department. It was there that she taught Cyto-technology students lab work for 25 years.

She loved to knit, crochet and bake, all of which she did with great pride. She was a devoted wife and mother but it was her grandchildren that gave her the most pleasure. Always making herself available to them with a kind word, patience, support and encouragement.

Mom was diagnosed with dementia in 2007, which deprived our family of the loving and engaging person that we knew her to be.

Our family would like to thank the exceptional staff at River Park Gardens where Mom resided at the time of her passing. Every day they gave her the best of care, compassion and respect. We are eternally grateful to them.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.

In keeping with Mom’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no formal funeral service. Her final resting place will be with her husband, Herb.

Mom always ended her letters with the following passage:

MIZPAH

“May the Lord watch between thee and me, while we are absent one

from the other”.
