GAYLE ANNE BUECKERT

(nee KENDALL)

1942 – 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our sweet mother, Gayle Bueckert.

Daughter of Jack and Stella Kendall, Gayle grew up on Spruce Street in Winnipeg. The growing Kendall family later moved to Harris Blvd. and finally to Old Mill Road in St. James. The family had a cottage at Winnipeg Beach where Gayle enjoyed many summer activities.

She attended Manitoba Teachers’ College where she met Arthur Bueckert. They married in May 1962. She had a short but wonderful career as a Grade two teacher at Assiniboine and Athlone schools until she became a full-time stay-at-home mom. Gayle later worked as a roulette croupier and in the surveillance room at Winnipeg casinos.

Art and Gayle purchased their family home in Westwood, St. James, where she lived for 58 years before moving to Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence.

She and Art loved to travel and had many memorable camping vacations with friends and family in the early years, road trips throughout the US and, most of all, their vacations in Hawaii. They put many miles on the highway to and from Calgary to visit family.

Gayle was a devoted daughter, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt, who loved spending time with family and being part of family celebrations. She worked tirelessly to care for Art, her daughters and her parents. She carried on family cooking and baking traditions with her granddaughters and continued visits to Calgary to attend birthdays and special events.

Gayle loved cooking, sewing and knitting and always had a project on the go. She sewed and knitted entire wardrobes for her children and grandchildren and made many gifts for friends and family.

She was a kind, gentle, patient, generous, thoughtful person who always had a smile on her face with love and laughter for all. Gayle is lovingly remembered and her memory is cherished by her daughters, Kerri (Jeff Tareta) and Suzanne; granddaughters, Megan and MacKenzie; sisters, Lynne (Lawrence Herman), Susan (Alex Cudney), Kim and brother Todd (Michelle), sisters-in-law, Anne Braun and Marie Bueckert, as well as the many nieces and nephews of the Kendall and Bueckert family. She is predeceased by her parents, Jack and Stella Kendall, husband Arthur, infant granddaughter Taylor Tareta, as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence for their excellent care and attention, as well as the doctors and staff of Unit 5 of Seven Oaks General Hospital.

Donations may be made gratefully in the memory of Gayle to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or alzheimer.mb.ca.
