KENNETH BRUCE DAVID GOERTZEN

January 27, 1957 - October 28, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth Bruce David Goertzen at St Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at age 68.

Ken was born in Steinbach on January 27, 1957, where he grew up. As a kid, he taught himself to play guitar by ear, listening to music over and over, a hobby he kept. After obtaining his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Manitoba, he moved to Winnipeg, where he met Connie on a blind date after being introduced by mutual friends. They married in October 1990, and had their honeymoon in Aruba, which they enjoyed so much they went back for their 25th anniversary.

Ken and Connie bought a house together on Mulvey and started a family, and moved to Paterson St in 1999. They had three sons, Matthew, Allan, and Eric, and together they went on many road trips across Canada and the US.

Ken worked as an accountant and auditor at several companies, retiring from Steinbach Credit Union in 2021. In retirement he continued working on his lifelong hobby of genealogy, tracing back his family and filling in gaps in the Mennonite Grandma database.

Ken and Connie loved each other very much, and were proud to watch their sons grow into the men they are today. When Connie passed in July, Ken was devastated by the loss. He got a butterfly tattoo in October to remember her by.

On October 28, Ken suffered a heart attack at home while working on a genealogy project. He was taken to St Boniface Hospital where he passed later that evening.

Ken was predeceased by his father David in 1981, his mother Florence in 2021, and his wife Connie in July 2025. He is survived by his three sons, Matthew (Sarah), Allan and Eric; his sisters, Sharon (Orlan), Sandi (James), Jennifer (Ed) and Kristine (Doug); Connie’s parents, Anne and Jake Sawatsky and her brother Doug Krahn, and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, their children, and many friends.

Ken was a devoted husband, father, and friend. A Celebration of his Life will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd, on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., followed by interment and lunch at Glen Lawn. A live stream will be available on Glen Lawn’s website.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider making a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca) or a charity of your choice, in memory of Ken.

One at the beginning of our careers at Deloitte( or Deloitte Haskins & Sells back then) and one later on in our careers at the CWB.Although Ken was always serious and professional when it came to work, he also had a great sense of humour and was someone you would like to have a beer with after work. - Posted by: Barry Horan (Friend/ coworker) on: Nov 05, 2025
