Helen Buckland passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba at the age of 88 years.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ralph of 63 years; her daughter Diane (Dwayne) Nelles, son Brian (Sharon) Buckland; grandchildren, Rachelle (Zane), Andrew (Rose), Allyssa (Malic) and Lyall (Christina); great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Peyton, Kinzley, Ryder, Elladie and soon to be Ozzi; brother Fred Restau, sisters, Hilda Restau and Ann (Sam) Hycak; as well as countless extended family and friends.
She is preceded by her parents, Edmund (Otylie) Restau; sister Lydia (Ken) Thompson, brothers Walter (Marilyn) Restau and Kenneth (Vivian) Restau.
Helen was a teacher by trade, a mother at heart. She loved to work in her flower and vegetable gardens. She and Ralph enjoyed the beautiful lakes up in and around The Pas, MB. They loved to entertain family and friends. She enjoyed bowling and played many games of cards, dice and scrabble over the years. Helen had a quiet patience that was easy to love.
Many thanks go out to the emergency and ICU doctors at Brandon hospital as well as the Brandon Homecare staff who took such good care of her while she was in her home. Thanks also go out to their friends and the staff at Rotary Villas for their care and concern during Helen's decline in health and the support they continue to show Ralph.
Many thanks to Mabel Ramsay who made the beautiful angels in memory of Helen.
The family also wishes to thank the staff at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home for their exceptional care and support.
The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Helen for those who would like to attend on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at The Clarion Inn and Suites, 3130 Victoria Ave. The Tribute to Helen will start at 2:00 p.m. with lunch and slide show to follow.
