DR. WILLIAM FOUAD

1932 - 2026

Dr. William Fouad passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, at the age of 93, completing a life of unwavering principle, subtle humor, and unlimited cheer. Born in Khartoum, Sudan, Dr. Fouad was the eldest of seven children, a man whose character was defined by foundational self-reliance and a belief that "order costs nothing." His life was a masterclass in pragmatism and quiet tenacity, a quality he mimicked from his maternal grandfather, Yanni Magar.

In 1965, he began his loving partnership with his wife, Laura Saba. Their journey together led them from North Africa to Scotland for his medical residency, and definitively to the vast landscapes of Northern Canada in 1971. They landed in Gilliam and soon relocated to The Pas for 15 years. William was a devoted physician who saw his profession not as an easy path, but as an adventure, drawn to the periphery where the need was greatest. He became a fixture of the North, bridging cultural divides by serving his community with compassion, traveling to remote nursing stations, and possessing an adaptive brilliance in his practice. William served on the Board of the The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Manitoba, he was Chief of Staff of St. Anthony's Hospital and the Founder of the Rosaire House for Addiction in The Pas, Manitoba.

Beyond his professional life, William was a lover of culture and creativity. His leisure was synonymous with hands-on learning, approaching DIY projects with a "Pharaonic sense of scale and precision." He was a lover of live theatre, Opera, and music, maintaining an extensive eclectic record collection. A tireless correspondent, he cherished his global network of family and friendship.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Laura; his three children, Amira (Nader), Paul (Tina), and David (Ashley); and his six grandchildren, Luke and Erin Fouad, Alexandra and Carina Shenouda, and Annika and Teddy Fouad.

Dr. Fouad viewed life as a grand game, and that history always rhymes, he played his hand with extraordinary skill and dignity. He is remembered by his family as a man whose life of consequence was built through love, commitment, and courage. His work here is done. He has now found his rest.

The family would like to thank the medical teams and staff at St. Joseph and Action Marguerite St. Boniface long term care facilities, whose compassion and expertise made William's last years comfortable.

Thank you to Father Morcos for the many years of support to William and Laura throughout the years. Thank you to Father Kyrillos for coming every Sunday to visit and serve communion to William when he could no longer attend services in-person. Thank you to his many friends from St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church and so many family members from around the world who visited William regularly during his last years.

The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, January 31st at 1:00 p.m. at the Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 2255 Grant Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3P 0S2.

John 11:26 Jesus said to her - I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.

  • Helen and I would like to send condolences to Laura and the whole family. We recall with delight the great get-togethers we have enjoyed over many years in Winnipeg, on the banks of the Red River and on Lake Winnipeg. Such great conversations with Willy who would listen politely to all, and then carefully reveal a great depth of knowledge in his thoughtful polite manner. We enjoyed opera and music together, and particularly warmed to the piano skills of Amira when the big family assembled. - Posted by: David Lyttle (Friends) on: Jan 31, 2026
