Paraskevi, known by most as Voula, was born in the village of Kallifitos, close to the City of Drama in northern Greece. Her parents were Gabriel and Maria Gavrilidis. It was in Kallifitos where Voula met and married her beloved husband, Constantine Gamvrelis, who was born in Theologos on the nearby Island of Thasos. Constantine passed away in September, 1986. After they married they emigrated to Winnipeg, Canada to start a new and hopeful life in their new country. Voula had one sibling, Theodore, who predeceased her in March, 1995.
As a great-grandmother, Voula’s legacy lives on through her son George’s family – wife Pat, granddaughter Amelia (Paul) and great-granddaughter Minnie (Voula); and grandson Constantine. Her son Gabriel (Archy). Her daughter Kathy’s family – husband Kyriacos (Charles) Hatzipanayis, granddaughter Angelique, and grandson Constantine and his family – wife Sarah, and great-granddaughters Anna and Stella. Voula also leaves behind many dear nieces and nephews here in Winnipeg.
The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated that donations be made to the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church "in memory of Paraskevi Gamvrelis".
May Her Memory be Eternal
