Darryl Aubrey
With deep love and gratitude, the family of Darryl Philip Aubrey announces his peaceful passing on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario to his parents Trefle and Edith in 1940, Darryl loved being at the rink and playing hockey. Kirkland Lake was a noted hockey town producing multiple NHL players. Darryl often regaled about sharing the outdoor ice with the likes of Dick Duff, Ralph Backstrom and the Plager brothers.
Darryl lived a life defined by quiet strength, unwavering devotion to his family, and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Cathy Aubrey, his partner in all things and the heart of their home. Together they raised a family that was his greatest pride: sons Chris (Charlene), Phil (Stacey), Michael (Nikki) and daughter Ingrid. Whether he was driving them to sports, picking them up from parties or answering their phone calls in the middle of the night - he was a steady, loving presence in their lives - someone they could always count on for guidance, humour, and unconditional support. Darryl was a tireless worker in his professional life. Most of his 40-plus years in the workforce was spent working long hours at Scotiabank so he could provide everything his family needed. He led by example in teaching his children the value of hard work and respect.
He was a devoted and deeply cherished grandfather to Kayla, Charlotte, Ilyana, Jack, Tom, James and Rhys - each one a source of immense pride and joy. His eyes shone brightest when he was surrounded by his grandchildren, sharing stories, laughter, and the gentle wisdom that defined him. Darryl was also a loving brother, holding a special place in the hearts of his younger siblings, John and Cheri.
Darryl will be remembered for his kindness, his integrity, and the quiet way he made life better for the people around him. His legacy lives on in the family he adored and in the countless moments of love, patience, and generosity he offered throughout his life. Even in his final days he could be heard telling stories about his favourite things - growing up playing hockey, his beloved Montreal Canadiens, his days working in the bank, camping trips with the family, travelling the world with his wife and of course inquiring about his grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
A private gathering for family will be held at a later date.
