Arne Gunner Anderson passed away peacefully with family by his side on March 24, 2026, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 94.
Arne was born on December 31, 1931, at the Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his father, Arnold Anderson; his mother, Margaret Anderson (nee Olson); and his beloved wife of 33 years Evelyn Anderson.
He will be lovingly remembered by his stepson, Stuart Whitney; his daughter-in-law, Nicole “Nicky” Whitney; and his grandsons, Cameron and Lochlin Whitney all of Winnipeg. Arne also leaves behind many dear friends and extended family in the Rosser area.
Arne grew up in Rosser, Manitoba, where he attended East Rosser School and worked on the family farm. The farm produced grain and maintained chickens for egg production. He often shared stories of earning his driver’s license at just 14 years old so he could haul grain and operate farm equipment - an early reflection of his strong work ethic and independence.
In addition to running the family farm, Arne built a successful career as a Superintendent with Litez Crane Company in Winnipeg. He took great pride in the many projects he contributed to, often noting how his work helped shape the skyline and infrastructure of Winnipeg and throughout Manitoba.
Arne also served as Chairman of the Board at Sylvia Catering and Vista Lund, where he met his late wife, Evelyn. Together they built a life filled with love, partnership and shared accomplishments.
A longtime member of the Rosser Curling Club, Arne enjoyed many years on the ice, forming friendships and embracing the community spirit of the sport. Arne had a passion for travel and was fortunate to explore Canada, the United States and destinations around the world.
One of his most cherished memories was a trip to Sweden, where he proudly recalled skiing with the King of Sweden.
In his later years, Arne found great joy at home in Charleswood, where he and Evelyn created a beautiful yard and welcoming space for family and friends. Their home became the heart of countless gatherings, including barbecues, pool parties, holiday celebrations, birthdays and Sunday dinners.
Arne lived a full and meaningful life, rich with hard work, adventure, and connection. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave.
