At the age of 87, at Riverview Personal Care Home, Marina went home to her Holy Father.
Marina is survived by her sons, Robert (Jayne) and granddaughter Laurence, and Patrick (Shawna); granddaughter Kaeleigh (Kyle) and great-grandchildren, Hannah, Brodie, Aidan, and Tyler; granddaughter Karah-Brynne and great-grandson Zacchaeus; daughter-in-law Linda (George) and granddaughter Mikayla.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Benny; sons, Byron and Kenneth Joseph; daughter-in-law Barbara; her parents, William and Mary Josephine; and her siblings, Leo, Nell, and Carmel.
Born in Carbonear, Newfoundland, Marina met Benny in Gander and spent the next 24 years through Benny’s military service living in various points in Canada and in Bermuda, finally settling in Winnipeg in the mid-70s when her husband retired from the military and worked for the Public Service until he finally retired. Marina spent many years working at Canadian Tire, Polo Park, before retiring to raise Kaeleigh and Karah-Brynne after the loss of their parents, her son Kenneth Joseph. After raising four boys, raising two girls was a real challenge and one of her greatest joys, and where she became known as ‘Nanny’ to the neighbourhood children.
Marina was a proud member of the Army Navy Veterans Ladies Auxiliary. She also enjoyed spending time each year travelling to British Columbia to see family, until it became impossible to travel.
A private burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association, or Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence, Riverview Personal Care Home, and Comforts of Home Care for providing Marina with care, dignity, and compassion in her last years.
