MARIA FATIMA SOARES
Maria Fatima Soares passed peacefully with family by her side on May 1, 2026. She leaves to mourn her husband of 58 years, Antonio, children Elizabeth (Richard), Lucy, Brian (Nina), granddaughters Leslie, Nicole, Jennifer, Brittany, Melanie, and great grandchildren Jonas, Ellie, and a baby boy on the way.
Maria was born in Santa Maria Açores, Portugal July 6, 1948, immigrating to Canada in 1966 with her parents and some siblings, and settling in Winnipeg. Maria and Antonio married in 1967, building a life together through hard work while raising children of their own, and visiting family when possible.
Maria is predeceased by her parents Bernardino and Emelia Figueredo, her brothers Bernardino, Angelo, and José, and sister-in-law Maria de José. She leaves behind siblings Antonio (Beatriz), Manuel (Juliana), Augustinho (Maria), Antonino (Grace), David (Clara), Jaime (Judy), Alfred (Maria), sister Gilda (Manuel), sister-in-law's Deolinda, Beatriz, and Emilia, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She adored her family, loving to cook for us all. She was very artistic, creating gorgeous flower gardens, and often finding treasures to upcycle and repurpose. Weekday afternoons you could find her having coffee with friends - always saying she didn't like the coffee, but the conversations.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph's for their loving care in ensuring our Maria was safe, comfortable, and cared for in her final years of life.
Prayers will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at 7:00 p.m. Private family funeral service to be held at a later date.

We are so saddened to hear of Maria’s passing, please accept our deepest condolences and our thoughts and prayers are with you all during your time of sorrow. May you find peace and comfort in the many wonderful memories you have created during her lifetime. I too hold special memories of her from when she first arrived in Winnipeg and to this date was very fond of her. I was honoured when she invited me to be her maid of honour when she got married. May she Rest In Peace! Sending our deepest condolences to all the family. Tony and Maria DiBiase - Posted by: Maria and Antonio Di Biase (Cousins) on: May 05, 2026
