GLENDA FAYE SHORT
Glenda Faye Short of Shoal Lake passed away on April 18, 2026, at the Hamiota Health Center at the age of 58.
Glenda was born on July 11, 1967, son of William (Bill) Preston and Marilynn Preston. She was the oldest child and a sister to Gerritt Preston.
Glenda’s professional career began as a nurse in 1990, first starting in the Shoal Lake and Rossburn hospitals but spent the majority of her tenure at the Hamiota Health Center. Her skills and knowledge to provide compassionate and complete care to those in need were something she took pride in every day. She treated every patient equally with kindness and professionalism no matter what.
Glenda then began working with Prairie Mountain Health in a managerial role in the early 2000’s. She was known for her unwavering commitment and dedication to ensuring quality health care was provided to areas within the Prairie Mountain Health area. Throughout her tenure and various positions within the region, she was a constant advocate for individuals in rural communities to provide the services they needed. Her strength, work ethic and leadership touched many individuals across the Prairie Mountain Health region, leaving a lasting impression on many.
Glenda also spent an extensive amount of time and energy co-owning what started as the local Tru-Value, later transitioning to Home Hardware. Her and Glendon opened the store in 1999, and she continued to assist with this, along with her fulltime job and family demands until they sold the store in 2022. The ability to juggle not only a demanding fulltime job, but also co-running a small business, is a testament to her work ethic and strength.
Glenda spent her free time baking, enjoying sports such as hockey and curling, and spending as much time as possible at the lake during the summer months fishing and enjoying campfires at night. The kindness and generosity she possessed extended past her work into her family and friends. Family meant everything to Glenda, whether it be dinners, trips or events, Glenda would always embrace every moment she could with the ones she loved. Her children and grandchildren were always a tremendous source of pride and joy to her as she cherished every milestone and moment with them.
She was predeceased by her mother Marilynn Preston. Glenda is survived by her husband Glendon Short of 36 years, sons Aaron Short (Jasmine Short) of Dauphin and Matthew Short (Carolina Ximena) of Winnipeg and grandchildren Grayson and Olivia Short. She is also survived by her father Bill Preston (Donna Preston) and brother Gerritt Preston as well as numerous extended families.
