CHRISTA MARIE LUISE HILDEGARD PUTZ

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Christa Marie Luise Hildegard Putz (née Spiegel) on May 8, 2026, at the age of 90. Christa passed away quietly in her sleep after facing a number of health challenges over many years.

Christa was born on February 29, 1936, in Hannover, Germany. As a child, she lived through the hardships and uncertainty of the Second World War, experiences that helped shape her strength, resilience, and appreciation for family and home. In 1958, she immigrated to Canada to be with her fiancé who immigrated to Canada in 1956, where she would build a rich and adventurous life filled with love, travel, and devotion to her family.

Throughout the years, Christa lived in many small mining communities across Canada, embracing each new chapter with courage and adaptability. She also spent seven memorable years living in Ghana, an experience she treasured. Eventually, she and her husband settled in Steinbach, which became her long-time home.

Christa had a remarkable curiosity and adventurous spirit, which was reflected in the many unique jobs she held throughout her lifetime. She approached each role with determination, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace new experiences.

Christa was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hans Putz, who passed away on December 17, 2010, and by her sister, Uta, in 2026. Christa and Hans together shared a life filled with perseverance, travel, partnership, and family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Leslie and Angela; her grandchildren, Savannah, Stuart, Montana, and Kennedy; and her three great-grandchildren. Christa’s greatest joy was always her family, and she cherished every moment spent together.

Christa also had a lifelong love of animals and found great comfort and happiness in their companionship throughout her life. Whether caring for pets or simply enjoying the presence of animals around her, they brought her immense joy.

Christa will be remembered for her quiet strength, enduring resilience, caring nature, and unwavering love for those closest to her. Her life journey carried her across continents and through extraordinary times, yet her heart was always centered on family, love, home, and the simple joys of life.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 22, 2026 at Grace Mennonite Church, 3rd Street, Steinbach, MB, in the foyer, at 11:00 am.

Donations may be made to Grace Mennonite Church, Steinbach or to an animal rescue of your choice.
