It is with deep sadness and much love that the family of Richard Roy Childs announce his passing.
Predeceased by his dear wife Iris (Kingsmill) his parents Luella and William, sisters Maryan, Vi, Thelma, Joyce and brothers Wallace, Clayton, George. Roy will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Marlynn Childs, Jackie Gabel (Randy) Colleen Mahon (Mike) and his grandchildren Kevin, Curtis, Andrew, Ty (Anastasia) Braiden (Nicole) and Cassidy.
Roy grew up with his seven siblings on a farm in Venlaw, close to Gilbert Plains, MB where he attended Deer Park School. As a child he spent many happy days helping his Grandpa Shaw on the farm and playing school with his Aunties. Roy shared many anecdotes of playing hockey and tobogganing on his family farm and playing sports at school.
Roy also had many interesting stories of his early adult years working in a logging camp in Ontario as well as a variety of jobs in northern MB. He spent the majority of his years working in Road Construction first for Red River Road Builders (helping to build the Winnipeg Floodway) then as the company Superintendent of Tasker Enterprises. He ended his career by doing independent construction work with his bulldozer.
Roy married his sweetheart Iris and soon settled with her and his daughters in St. James, Wpg. The couple supported their daughters in a variety of activities including Ringette. They travelled extensively throughout Canada and the US. They wintered in Texas, spending summers with family at their cottage at Hillside Beach, MB. Both valued travel so much that Roy continued to generously give trip money to help his family enjoy all their adventures.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Dakota House where Roy spent his final years as well as his regular Homecare workers.
There will be a private family Celebration of Life. You live forever in our hearts Roy, Dad, Grandpa.
