ELSIE COLLINS Peacefully in her sleep, on August 12, 2000 at Bow View Manor in Calgary, AB, Elsie Collins (nee Kotenko), formerly of 362 Scotia Street, Winnipeg. Elsie leaves to mourn two sons, Fred of Calgary and Wendell of Edmonton, their wives, Joan and Edna; seven grandchildren, Terri, Troy, Sean, Jodi, Wallee, Athena and Tiffany; six great-grandchildren; a sister Jean Wark; as well as numerous other relatives, friends and former neighbours. Elsie was predeceased by Wilbur her husband of almost 57 years, in February 1997. Elsie was born January 10, 1919, one of five children of Mary and Peter Kotenko and, with the exception of the past two years, lived her life to the fullest in Winnipeg. She was a wonderful mother and along with Wilbur, instilled in her sons those ethics and values that carried her so well for so many years throughout her life. In her youth, our Nana was an excellent student, as well as a good athlete. She played softball with CUAC and at one time, she even had an opportunity to possibly pursue a professional career in that sport. But Elsie abandoned that idea when, characteristically, she realized it no longer could be just a field of her own after having met Wilbur in drama and choir groups at Robertson Memorial Church. They were married in June, 1939. In addition to providing a warm home, in which everyone was welcome and the stories were never-ending and the menu only listed good, home-made food, both also had long, enriching work experiences - Elsie in the offices of the Seven Oaks School Division. Our family celebrates her life and along with you, we forever will cherish the memories. We also are at peace knowing our precious Nana and Papa are together again. For eternity. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 29 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474
