JAMES (JIM) STUART CARRUTHERS April 29, 1926 - December 23, 2001 Jim passed on peacefully at home in Winnipeg, after several years of battling diabetes and asthma. Jim was born and raised on a family farm near Runnymede, SK. Jim later moved his family to Winnipeg. He joined Canada Safeway, as a millwright dedicating most of his years to Safeways Erin Street bakery, where he worked to his retirement. Following his retirement, Jim and Doreen settled at the family cabin on the Bird River. Weakened by diabetic and asthmatic complications, they were forced to move back to Winnipeg within reach of the immediate family. There was no challenge too great for Jim, from carpentry, woodwork, and welding, machining, building garages to building our family cabin on the Bird , a cabin shared by many friends and relatives throughout the years. Jim touched those around him. He was an inspiration to those who knew him, composed and tenacious in his undertakings. Jim was a man of few words, but a devoted husband, dedicated family man, befriended and cherished by many. Jim had a passion for the outdoors, enjoyed fishing, hunting and simpler things in life provided by Mother Nature. Jim had a unique ability to befriend all those who had the pleasure of making his acquaintance. He truly was a gentlemans gentlemen. Jim recently celebrated his 51st wedding anniversary, married to his beloved wife, Doreen (nee Pfeifer). Jim had several passions, but none was greater than his love for his wife and family. His passing will be deeply felt by his life-long love for Doreen; his sons, Robin, Rodney, and Donald; and daughter, Peggy; grandchildren, Ryan Ward, Leanne Ward, Dana Carruthers, Reid Carruthers, Justin Carruthers, Nicole Carruthers, Clinton Carruthers, Dale Carruthers, Neil Carruthers, Grace Carruthers and Paul Carruthers; Sons and daughters-in-laws, Barry Ward, Karen Carruthers, Linda Carruthers, and Michelle Carruthers; and his sister, Chris Schauf. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Meg Carruthers; sisters, Mary Smith, Grace Franklin, and Frances Carruthers; and brother, George Carruthers. Jim was very close to his brothers-in-law and families, Bill, Dave, Ronny, Arthur, Elmer and Ted (predeceased). He frequently enjoyed fishing and hunting excursions together throughout Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service and a celebration of Jims life is scheduled at the Faith Lutheran Church at 1311 Dakota St., Winnipeg, R2N2P6 on Saturday, December 29 at 10:30 a.m. Honorary Pallbearers are grandsons, Ryan Ward, Reid Carruthers, Justin Carruthers, Clinton Carruthers, Dale Carruthers, Neil Carruthers, and Paul Carruthers. As well, granddaughters, Dana Carruthers, Leanne Ward, Nicole Carruthers, and Grace Carruthers will carry the torch of Jims spirit, cherishing many fond memories hes provided, which we will hold close to our hearts for years to come.
