RHODA IRENE LILLIAN MURPHY (nee STANGLE) October 20, 1920 - November 7, 2002 It is with great sadness and tender hearts that we share the news of the passing of our dear Rhoda, on Thursday, November 7, 2002 at the age of 82. Rhoda was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Henry Dennis; parents, Gottlieb (George) and Ida (nee Greif) sister Hilda; brothers, Arthur and Frank and brother-in-law John Murphy. Left to cherish her memory is her ever-loving daughter, Joan; loving grandsons, Olivier and Luc, their father Rejean; her sister-in-law Alice Stangle; her brother-in-law Phil (Helen) Murphy; sister-in-law Hilda Murphy, many nieces, nephews, cousins, close family members and friends. Rhoda was born and raised in Montreal, where she married Dennis and they raised their daughter Joan. In those years, she worked as a secretary with several businesses as well as being a school secretary and church secretary at Norwood United Church in St. Laurent, QC. In her leisure time, she was outgoing in pursuits that included playing golf, cards, enjoying archery, painting and socializing with friends and family. During the summers, Rhoda, Dennis, Joan and her sister, Hilda with whom she was very close, camped extensively in eastern Canada, the Maritimes and New England states. She was always very passionate about Canada, its politics and was very active and in her own way, vocal in pursuing those things that touched her heart. She was a woman of vibrancy and vitality for which she will be remembered. Rhoda and Dennis moved to Calgary in the 1970s, where they spent 20 years enjoying western Canada. As Dennis was a Second World War veteran, they became involved with activities at their local Royal Canadian Legion. After Dennis death in 1995, Rhoda made the big move to Winnipeg to be with Joan and family. These years have been precious and dear ones for which we are grateful. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of 2E at Riverview Health Centre and the St. Boniface Hospital for their support and love. In addition, many heartfelt thanks to her homecare givers and friends for their care and kindness through recent years. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16 at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (South of the Royal Canadian Mint) with interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, a donation can be made in Rhodas memory to the St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation, Room D-1003, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6.
