CHARLES SYDNEY WALKER (CHARLIE / CHUCK) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Walker, peacefully Friday, January 17, 2003 at Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home at the age of 64 years. The second youngest of seven children, he was predeceased by his mother Emily Mary (Wise), father Thomas Walker, both of England; and brother Ted of Winnipeg. Chuck was born in Winnipeg and resided here until his demise. He met his wife Janet (Bakuska) who passed away in 1996. Chuck spent most of his working life in the taxicab industry, starting as a driver, dispatcher, then inspector for the Provincial Government, and later serving as Secretary of the Taxicab Board. He also enjoyed giving his time to the Gateway Community Club over the years servings as Secretary and President. He was a member of St. Alphonsus adult choir along with his wife Janet for many years. He loved to travel and especially talked of his trips to Mexico with his wife. He will be missed by his children, Greg (Tanis Pawluck) and Lorraine (Philipp Schott) grandchildren, Ethan, Joshua and Isabel. He also leaves his sisters, Judy Gladall (Al) of Winnipeg and May Hunter (Graham) of Neepawa; brothers, George of Pasadena, CA, Eric of Victoria, BC and Alf (Elaine) of Ottawa, ON; sister-in-law Nettie (Bakuska) Paluck; brother-in-law Harry Bakuska; as well as many nieces and nephews; friends, Jerry Halas (Winnipeg), Lorraine and Frank Lay (Selkirk), Ruby and Wally Mucz (Winnipeg), as well as many others who will miss him. Prayers will be held 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 20 at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 300 Donalda. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 21 also at the church with Brother Jorge Villegas, O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery. The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Tuxedo Villa for their care and compassion through his struggle with Alzheimers disease. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make donations in Chuck's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Winnipeg Humane Society or to a charity of ones choice.
