JEFFERY COLLINS April 29, 1946 - March 31, 2004 Peacefully, on March 31, 2004 Jeffery Collins passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Left with wonderful memories are his loving wife of 36 years Cheryl and his children, Patrick (Jacquie) and Jodi (Jason). Also left are the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Paige, Brooke and Norah. Jeff is also survived by his mother, Frances and his brothers, Bill, Tom (Karin) and Frankie; as well as many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father William Watson Collins. Jeff was born in Winnipeg. He attended the University of Manitoba where he achieved a Bachelor of Physical Education and Bachelor of Education. Jeff was loved by many, and touched several lives as his role as teacher, mentor, coach and colleague. Much of his life was spent at Grant Park High School, a place he loved. He felt very blessed having so many friends, who until the end, supported, entertained, dined and laughed with him. As a coach, he worked with students he admired for their dedication and commitment to track and field. He worked also with world class special needs athletes. Recently Jeff was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. He was also able to attend the benefit dinner, which was held in his honour to establish a scholarship in his name (Thank you Asha), as well as a walk to support the Brain Tumor Foundation (Thanks Janice). The last few years were spent celebrating life with friends and family. He was able to travel, spend quiet moments, live, love and share his life. As a result Jeff preferred a service to celebrate life, love and friendship rather than a formal funeral. Please join us on Tuesday, April 6 at Grant Park High School at 7:00 p.m. We will gather to remember our husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who touched Jeffs life, his numerous friends and family, the wonderful staff at CancerCare Manitoba and St. Boniface Palliative Care and to Dr. Janice Mulder and Dr. Vijay. In lieu of flowers should people wish, a donation may be made in Jeffs name to the Jeff Collins Scholarship Fund, the Manitoba Developmental Centre in Portage, or to the Brain Tumor Foundation at CancerCare Manitoba.
