Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROLAND REGIS SYLVESTRE With his family by his side, our dad passed away peacefully on November 14, 2005 at the St. Boniface General Hospital at the age of 76 years. Dad was predeceased by Mom, his beloved wife of 52 years, Rita (nee Peters) and his grandson Stephen. Dad leaves a legacy of love in one daughter and nine sons, Gilles (Dawna), Richard (Lucille), Alain (Lynn), Denis (Maria Elena), Guy (Valerie), Michel (Val), Marc (Cindy), Marcel (Gigi), Monique (Bill) and Paul, 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn brothers, Robert (Joyce), Marcel (Verna) and sisters, Stella Arnal and Claudette (Al) Martin. Dad was born on October 25, 1929, to Simone (nee Claude) and Alphonse Sylvestre in Bellegarde, SK. Upon moving to Winnipeg, he met and married Rita in 1951. Because of their faith, they were able to overcome many obstacles. Dad juggled three jobs for many years until he was hired by the City of Winnipeg Transit, where he was a valued employee for 31 years. Dad was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also served as Grand Knight for two years. He was an usher at the Cathedrale de Saint-Boniface for over 34 years. He loved dancing, bowling, curling and playing a good game of cards. He especially loved Sundays where he would spend the afternoon with his adored daughters-in-law. Dad was a proud supporter and fan of his grandchildren's activities. They will miss him dearly. Merci Pepere! Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 18 at Cathedrale de Saint-Boniface with l'abbe Edouard Bonin presiding. Viewing will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A private family interment will follow at a later date. A gathering of family and friends will take place immediately following the funeral in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Roland's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 (phone 949-2000). A special thank you to Fr. Lanoie and Philippe Le Quere for their spiritual guidance and to the staff at 5E Medicine for giving Dad the privacy for a graceful and dignified departure. I'm sorry for the loss of your father. It's always difficult saying goodbye to a loved one.The memories of your times together will give you the strength at times you may feel vulnerable. Knowing he is with your Mom now, is comforting to all. I thank him for being there for my Mom. Take care, and know that my prayers are with you.
