SAM TASCONA We would like to announce the sudden passing of Sam Tascona at the age of 78. Born March 3, 1928. Sam will be remembered by his loving family, beloved husband to his predecease wife, Pat Tascona of 44 years. Sam was predeceased by many of his family members. Sam was the youngest of 16 and left is Irene Boyle, Tony Tascona and Pippen Tascona (Barrie). Daughter Joyce Webinger, (predeceased Peter Webinger), son Tom Tascona, (Lori) and daughter Debbie Dueck (Albert); granddaughters, Tommi Lee and Nikki (from Edmonton) and grandsons, Trevor and Kevin Webinger. Jeanne had been a part of dad's life for the past four years and she to will miss Dad very much. Along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Involved for over 55 years as a player, coach, umpire placed with First Kildonan Rangers and West End Gengals Bantams, Norwood and C.U.A.C. Midgets, United Fox and C.U.A.C. Juniors, senior with St. Boniface Native Sons, Selkirk. St. James and St.Vital coached midget, junior, senior and intermediate teams winning championships with Precious Blood and Fannystelle, was junior all star coach in 1954, playing coach of successful tournament team in the 1950s and 1960s, umpired for 38 years, conducted clinics and was umpire-in-chief for 20 years, once supplied umpires for l07 teams, was umpire-in-chief for 1967 Pan Am Games, officiated in rural tournaments for over 20 years. Sam was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. Sam's involvement with Hockey was over 55 years as well, mentoring young refs. In 2001 Dad was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame as a Builder. In the 1999 Pam Am Games Sam was asked to throw the first pitch out. His love for his family was number one. He was always there for them. For over 50 years his involvement with hockey and baseball was incredible. Everyone listen and learnt something from him, even if you knew it wasn't correct, you still listen. His grandsons, who played hockey, then became a ref and timekeeper in hockey with a bit of influence from him. Sam's granddaughters also took after him by playing high level of ball. But Sam's biggest passion came from watching the horse races everyday, his son Tom would train and race and be his partner for over 30 years. Sam worked at Manitoba Hydro for over 30 years. The sound of Sam's voice of always being right, the on going losing arguments, his love for everything and knowledge will be missed greatly but will stay in our hearts forever. The last thing Sam was doing was watching the racings and how he loved that. Pallbearers Kevin, Trevor, Tommi, Nikki, Albert and Brian Tascona There will be a farewell celebration of Sam's life at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 3 at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint) We ask that you consider a donation to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
