JOHN (JIM) JAMES TALBOT

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (JIM) JAMES TALBOT Peacefully, on Sunday May 28, 2006, at the Grace Hospice, Jim died at the age of 86 years. Remaining to cherish Jim's memory are his sons, Gary (Yolanda) of Truckee, California and son Bruce (Susan) of Winnipeg; brother Bill (Bernice) Talbot of Montreal; as well as friends and neighbours, Bob and Joyce Gallaher, Marg Hewitt, Pat Robson, Ken, Jan and Doug Corby, Wally and Joan Norquay, Mary and Steve Glover, and many others. Jim was predeceased by his loving wife Marge in 1993, and long time friends and companions Duncan and Louise McLeod. Jim was born and raised in Montreal, where he participated in numerous sports, including hockey, football and fishing. He worked for Guardian Assurance before enlisting in the army in 1941 and served until 1945. He fought in the Second World War as a gunner, and as a radar operator with 3rd RCLU (Royal Canadian Legion Unit) RCA. After the war Jim continued working with Guardian Assurance, until being hired by Continental Insurance and was transferred to Toronto and later to Winnipeg. It was here through good friends Gary Thompson and Mae Harwood, he met and later married Margaret (Marge) Werner. He transferred to Calgary and then to Edmonton, where they had two sons, Gary and Bruce. They returned to Winnipeg in 1957 and Jim continued working with Continental until his retirement in 1982. There was no slowing him down; he was even busier in retirement, getting involved in numerous Thistle activities including golf and curling. He was also an avid lawn bowler, and enjoyed both 5 and 10 pin bowling with the Red Alex League as well as others. Along with all his sports, Jim was a keen blackjack player, and looked forward to his regular trips to Shooting Star. He also enjoyed bridge games at Deer Lodge and Silver Heights. On Friday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m. Jim's Funeral Service will be held in the Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue (corner of Mount Royal Road and Ness Avenue). For those who wish, additional parking is available in the Seventh - Day Adventist Church Parking Lot located on Ness Avenue. Thank you to Carl and Edith Johnson for welcoming Jim into the family. The family and Jim's heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who visited, called and sent cards; your ongoing support made a world of difference, including Sandi and Gerry Bertrand, Irv Hildebrand, Len and Barb Matthew, Muriel Ross, as well as Doreen and Bessie from the Legion; sincere thanks to the hardworking and compassionate staff and volunteers at the Grace Hospice and those who helped us care for Jim with in-home palliative care. In lieu of flowers, Jim requested donations may be made to No.1 Legion, The Winnipeg Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
